Just read this gripping suspense-filled book. L.G. writes a powerful book and keeps you on edge. She can keep you up at night so I recommend reading these during the daytime so you can get some sleep. This particular book in her series is about Rainy the ex-wife alcoholic who disappears mysteriously and is searched for by her ex. Then a little boy disappears too. Great story keeps you guessing till the end. I've stocked up on her books to continue the series.

I don't know that I liked this book as much as previous ones but it was a very good read. Kept you guessing until the end. This is book fifth of the ongoing Quincy-Rainie series. In order the books are:

"The Perfect Husband" intro of Pierce Quincy
"The Third Victim" intro of Rainie Conner
"The Next Accident" intro of Kimberly Quincy
"The Killing Hour" intro of Michael "Mac" McCormack
"Gone"
"Say Goodbye"

I would suggest reading these books in proper order just to understand and appreciate the dynamics of each character and their interaction with each other.

By the time I finished this series, I was glad it was over. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this series, but it just got so predictable. The murder/event is always connected to a main character. Either it's a family member of the main characters or one of the main characters. It gets annoying at times and you have to see past it.

Read in one day at the beach, this thriller moves quickly, develops good characters and keeps you guessing. I could have done without the redundant "in the good department/bad department" phrase but other than that it was very good

This one gets personal. For ex-FBI profiler Pierce Quincy. A car has been abandoned on the Oregon Highway in the rain. The woman's purse on the seat. The driver of that car his estranged wife Raine Conner has Vanished.

Rainie's life has been going down hill quickly, too much pressure at work, cases that go from bad to worse, killing a man that needed to die, a battle with alcohol, but she is determined to pull it all together. Rainie is now a child advocate, but she definitely has met her match in her newest case.

Pierce Quincy is Rainie's husband, a former FBI profiler, he know that their marriage is on the rocks, but when Rainie's car is found abandoned with the engine running and she is no where in sight, things get bad quickly. A kidnapper has soon contacted Quincy, but the demands seems all wrong. What is going on. Together with Quincy's adult daughter, they are going to find Rainie.

Told in the various voices of the characters involved, the read soon see's a deeper plot developing. What was it in Rainie's past that has brought them all to this point. Can a child really be responsible or are they just a ploy to make Rainie pay for her choices. A past that she too, should never been part of.

Though good, this book didn't fully capture my attention. It had too much of a been there done that feel. The characters are engaging and flawed, but still something for me was missing. Maybe this was a series that I should have started at the beginning, I never really got a good feel for who the main characters really are.

Wow what a story! Ex-FBI profiler Pierce Quincy's wife, Rainie, is kidnapped without a trace...until the ransom note arrives. This is one convoluted tale with numerous investigators and multiple suspects. The entire book (all 448 pages) take place over the course of two days. The kidnapper is a mystery all the way til the last chapter. His motives are obscure and clearly he is a nutcase.

All the mysteries were cleared up except one which bothers me a little. The body of one of the investigating officers is found buried on the property of one of the suspects and nothing ever comes of it. No investigation at all and the boy (Dougie) goes back into his custody with no questions asked. Just seemed weird to me as if the author forgot this part of the story and just left it hanging.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this book. I've read one other book ([book:The Perfect Husband|65910]) by this author which I also enjoyed. I do have one or two more on my shelves so I will definitely read more by Lisa Gardner.

Late at night, Ex-FBI Profiler Pierce Quincy gets a call from the local police. His estranged wife's car has been found abandoned on an Oregon highway. The engine was running and her purse was still on the seat. Rainie has vanished without a trace. Soon a ransom note arrives at the newspaper office. Pay $10,000 or Rainie will be gone for good. Quincy, along with the local police department, desperately hunt for Rainie before she runs out of time.

This is a fast moving story which takes place over just two days. There's lots of characters, great suspense and a well-plotted mystery. This series just gets better and better. My rating: 5 Stars.

Another great mystery from Gardner involving the group from the Oregon coast. This time ex-FBI profiler Quincy's wife, Rainie, vanishes. Their marriage is in big trouble, mostly because Rainie is a fighter every inch of the way, in all directions - so don't expect a typical "damsel in distress" story. The search for her brings his (FBI) daughter out from the east, a few new local police characters into the tale, and some great descriptions of the pounding rain that haunts that part of the country. There is more than one very likely suspect for the kidnapper, and Gardner keeps you guessing. Wonderful character development - good plot - fast action - and lots of suspense.

When retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy gets a phone call in the middle of the night, his worst fears become reality. Rainie, his estranged wife, has been kidnapped. After her car is found on a rural Oregon road with its driver's door open and engine idling, the Oregon State Police -- headed by overworked Sergeant Detective Carlton Kincaid -- receive a cryptic message from the unidentified abductor demanding money. Quincy immediately enlists the aid of his daughter Kimberly, an ambitious FBI agent based in Atlanta, and teams up with Kincaid and a local sheriff named Shelly Atkins in a race against time that could very well end in disaster. Rainie, meanwhile, is blindfolded and tied up "someplace dank and forgotten, where fat spiders weave huge masterpieces of sticky lace and small animals come to die." But as she battles with emotional and physical collapse, she comes to a stunning realization about herself

For ex-FBI profiler Pierce Quincy, it's the beginning of his worst nightmare: a car abandoned on a desolate stretch of Oregon highway, engine running, purse on the driver's seat. And his estranged wife, Rainie Conner, gone, leaving no clue to her fate.

When tough, smart ex-cop Rainie Conner is nowhere to be found after leaving her car running with the door open on a rainy night on a back road in Bakersville, Oregon, her husband of two years Quincy Pierce, a retired FBI profiler, fears the worst. This incident is only the latest bad news for Quincy as Rainie has of late been devastated concerning an unsolved case involving the cruel murder of a young girl and her mother, which has led to her resumption of drinking and an estrangement from Quincy.

But soon a ransom note arrives at the local newspaper. But why Rainie? Is this a random kidnapping? Or is there something in her past that has led to this. It was just a few years ago that she confessed to killing a man while a teenager in self-defense and hiding the body for nearly fifteen years. Is revenge now being sought? More recently Rainie has been investigating a situation where a troubled young boy has accused a foster parent of abusing him. Is there a connection? The author ratchets up the action as any number of locals could be connected with Rainie's disappearance, but the kidnapper's incessant demands make it a real scramble to pursue all of these possibilities.
