I am new to Scott Pratt's books. I am on my third one now which unfortunately for me is the first one he wrote. I love when I pick up a book that is the kind of book that I cannot put down and find myself stealing time to read. The characters in his books are everyday people with all the human frailities and flaws. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of his books. My husband also reads his books and I find him also "stealing" time to read them.

One of the best legal thrillers I've ever read. Couldn't put it down. Excellent!

I read first about this character in the first book "An Innocent Client" and it was really great.

Joe Dillard is a good man, a family man. He is a defense attorney, this case he takes on is so sad, and it is dangerous.
Joe Dillad is an engaging, complex character who is work rooting for and I'll be ready to read Scott Pratt's next book about Joe.
I highly recomend this to those who enjoy legal thrillers.

This is the second book written by this author. I'll start out by saying that you really should read the first book, A Innocent Client, before reading this one. By doing so, you will get the "background" of the characters.
This story starts out with a gruesome murder of a family. A second murder is quick to follow. The book has a lot of violence and some rather strong language. The murderers are a group satan worshipers, led my a female. Some of the scenes are pretty graphic. The presecutor is a former defense attorney trying to "atone" for defending those he knew were guilty. He has his own problems, including a sister who has had her own brushes with the law. His sister has her problems with drugs and alcohol and has also spent time in jail. His wife is fighting breast cancer. A quick read.

This is the second book in the series with Joe Dillard, lawyer. I love the characters in these books. Our main guy is definitely very human, has many problems, and is handling them beautifully. I plan to keep reading this series and hope this author keeps writing faster!

The book starts with a young Jehovah witness family, including the children, being killed by a group of goth young people. It is Joe Dillard's first day on the job as an assistant district attorney after a year long break from his work as a defense attorney which has sickened him and he is called to the sceine. At the same time, his beautiful wife discovers a lump in her breast which turns out to be a fast moving cancer. As he begins to work on the case, it becomes more bizzar and a second murder occurs with the same MO. It quickly becomes clear they are dealing with a cult of devil worshipers. This is a real page turner. The characters are developed well and the story moves quickly.

I didn't read them in order and I think maybe a person should read this series in order, because I have already read ahead in the series this one to me seemed too long and too drawn out and has a lot of repeat in it but I still give it a 5 because so far it is a really good series
