Just finished the first book by C.J. Box featuring Joe Pickett, Open Season--this might be a character to follow.  This first book gets you acquainted with Joe and his family and a good way to get started on this character if you want to keep up with him, it sets the ground by future books and they are already out there.  I encourage this book, it was very good.
