I thought this was an excellent book. I did not enjoy Weiner's previous book, Good in Bed, but I LOVED this one. I have read other reviews by folks who liked Good in Bed and such that HATED this book. So if you didn't like her previous books, give this one a try. It's definitely a mystery, with some chick/mom lit too. I would love to read more like this from Jennifer Weiner.
I find myself gobbling up all of her books that I can. I'm not too sure why, considering the endings to almost ALL of the books i've read have left me so mad. It seems like they are just unfinished and they leave you wondering "well what happened after?" If you're a fan of her books then you're probably already well aware of the style of her books and their endings. Other than the ending, I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read. I'd recommend it, but not without first making someone aware that becoming angry at the end is a definite possibility.

This was a different read for me of late. I've read one other Jennifer Weiner book, Good in Bed, and this was good but I liked that one better. This one lacked that zany touch of humor -- feeling like I was bogged down in Kate's life along with her would have been a bit easier with a few more laughs, although that was probably part of what she was getting at.
Overall, good book, but not great. And remind me not to get married, move to Connecticut, have a few kids and become a supermommy while my husband works long hours, becomes dismissive, and forgets how to be good in bed!

Weiner's typical formula of overweight woman unhappy with some part of her life has worked for three books. In _Goodnight Nobody_, she sticks with this formula, but also tries something new. It is a mystery of sorts.
The perfect mother is found dead. Her death was not a natural one. So, the community of Upchurch, CT (a whole community of perfect mothers) seeks to protect their families while honoring the deceased.
Kate Klein is not a perfect mother. As the discoverer of the dead body, she feels a connection with the woman who has died and seeks to discover who was responsible for the death.
If this is your first Jennifer Weiner book, you will love it. If you have read several of her books, you will enjoy it, but realize it is not her best book. It's enjoyable for sure, but she has written better stories!

I am a huge fan of Jennifer Weiner, and find her books very entertaining. That said, I must admit this book was a disappointment.
First to the outline of the book. Kate Klein is a suburban mother of three children under five. Her husband is a workaholic, and she feels left out of the clique of women that she has somewhat befriended in her neighborhood. When Kate finds the body of one of these moms after arriving for a play date, she sees it as an opportunity to break out of her rut. It also leads her to cross paths with a first love and begin to question her marriage.
My problems with the book start with Kate, the heroine/protagonist of the book. Although at times I identified with some of her plight, having lived in the suburbs most of my life and recognizing some of the Stepford wives she contends with, I also found her irritating. She claims not to fit in with her group of friends, but at times she seems rather condescending of their choices in life. She also seems to be rather offhand about her kids, and seems to enjoy herself only when they arent around. I dont think everyone needs to be a perfect mom 24/7, but cook them a meal once in a while, and do some laundry for crying out loud. It was as if trying to distance the character of Kate from the other moms Weiner went a little to far to the other side. The character of Janie, Kates best friend was more of a caricature than a real person. Ben and Evan the two men in Kates life seemed more like props. I have read all of Weiner's books, but this one I just couldn't get into. I thought it was really slow in the beginning and lost interest after the first few chapters.

If you ever lived as a stay at home mom in suburbia, this book right up your alley. IT's mystery involving a very normal wife in an almost stepford burb in CT. Her advntures, and misadventures are endearling . I found it a nice read, even though not my lifestyle, I would recomment it.

A funny and poignant tale of life in suburbia but not one of my favorites from Jennifer Weiner. This is one part mystery and two parts chick lit. Many of us can relate to the heroine. She wears sweat pants to play dates at the playground and fishes out old stale chips from her diaper bag much to the horror of the other mothers who are all petite and all of whom give healthy snacks to their children. A misfit and not too unhappy about it, Kate's life in Connecticut gives a good glimpse into the mommy wars and the fierce competition among mothers to outdo, outshine others. The mystery story seemed out of place. This could have been even better book if the murder was excised from the narrative. Weiner could have explored what it means to be a stay at home mom in the 21st century.

This is better than Weiner's usual (which aren't bad) because it is actually a murder mystery as well as an exploration into the world of mom's. Our protagonist Kate is a mother of three and has recently moved to a very snobby suburb in Connecticute where the mom's try to one-up each other on what a great mom they are. One of the snotty mom's is murdered and Kate finds her body. Kate works on finding the killer and in the process runs into the guy she never got over. This is a fun time with never a dull moment!

This book was something of a break from the usual JW book. While the main character is her typical plus-sized heroine, the book wasn't all about getting a guy or keeping one.
It was a little unbelievable in parts (Why, for example, would a bored suburban housewife decide that it was her job to solve a murder mystery?) but overall I really liked this one. Even the "perfect" neighborhood moms grabbed my interest and kept my attention through-out.

I am a huge fan of Jennifer Weiner! This book doesn't let you down at all! If anything, it shows you what a dynamic author she truly is because this if the first book of hers that includes a "murder mystery". And you can't miss her humor and sarcasm - a great book all around!

This book reminded me of Susan Isaac's Compromising Positions, and was just as fun. I've read all Weiner's books and although the mystery-like plot is different for her, the snappy diaglog and witty observations are just as good, if not better.

I love Jennifer Weiner's books! She is just so funny and real and reading her books makes me feel like I'm sitting around the table, drinking coffee with some of my best friends. I highly reccomend this book, and any of her others, to anyone!

I loved this book. It made me laugh out loud many times, as I can relate to some of her feelings of being a mother of small children in a new neighborhood and trying to relate to it all. This author gives her character just great wit and intelligence. I have read most of her books and everyone of then is great. I highly recommend this book!!

I absolutely love Jennifer Weiner!!! I first picked up "Good in Bed" at a yard sale, and loved it, so I have been on the hunt to pick up more of her books. Her charectors are always believable a highly relateable. This book is awsome as are all the rest of hers I have read. I will not part with my Jennifer Weiner books anytime soon.

A disappointment. The world does not need another bored-suburban-housewife-investigates-murder tale, even when the bored-suburban-housewife is one of Weiner's fully realized, quirky, bright women. The secondary plot involving the Guy That Got Away is good, but feels like it belongs in another book of its own.

It took me a long time to get through this book. I'm not sure why. I liked it well enough. It was light and funny at times, but it seemed to have way more layers than was necessary. Kate and Janie made a great team and I loved Sophie! A bored housewife playing detective with her best friend just wasn't enough to hold my attention in long bursts. Perhaps it just wasn't the right book at the right time.

I recently read all of Weiner's books after attending a booksigning in my neighborhood. I have to say, she is hilarious and so much like her heroines in her novels. Believe it or not, a lot of her characters are based on people she knows. She is a riot! This book was pretty good, but I like her other works better.

I bought this in an airport so I didn't have really high expectations. I was merely looking for a book that would entertain me during my flight. It served its purpose, as I was entertained. Though I must say, I thought the ending was a little stupid.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It's more mom lit than chick lit, and while it has that sort of feel to it, it's a more serious book than her previous novels "Good in Bed" and "In Her Shoes."

"Goodnight Nobody" is a very good novel that is several cuts above the average mystery which is forgotten as soon as you finish it. An unusual mix of the literary with satire and mystery, it is hard to peg but easy to recommend.

This is my least favorite of Jennifer Weiner's books. Her characters in this novel are left undeveloped throughout the story and are not even really likeable. It starts out good, with a relatable theme: "Suburban housewife (Kate) finds another one dead in her gourmet kitchen" but then the main character for not particular reason other than boredom goes into a Nancy Drew mode to try to find out who was the killer. It is hard to empathize with Kate, she doesn't really love her husband or being a mom, has not interesting voice or past and is frumpy and not even funny. The only saving grace is Kate's friend Janie, who is likable and funny. The twist and resolution on the story leaves a lot to be desired and leaves the reader with more questions than answers. Especially about the husband... and past boyfriend. Why did they play such an important part if nothing was going to link them to the story at all? I didn't get that. I wish Jennifer will go back to writing her funny witty easy read books that are great for the beach! Mystery not her forte.

im actually digging this book. i love chick lit, but i have to say, my brain is turning to mush. since id already checked this out from the library, i decided to start it while i sat and waited at the airport. and to my surprise someone gets murdered by the 5th page. so at least im forced to do some thinking! cant wait to find out who did it!

Not Weiner's best book but still very good. Of course it is funny and you'll fall in love with the main character and her friend.
Another good story by Jennifer Weiner---this one's not quite as lighthearted as Good in Bed and In Her Shoes. I really liked it though and highly recommend!

I have never ready a Jennifer Weiner book before. This was the pick for our book club last month. I loved it. I thought her satirical view of life in the "burbs" was fantastic. What is so sad and many of the characterizations were not really that far from the truth. There was a fantastic balance of humor and suspense with the mystery aspect. I will say that the ladies in the book club who had read her before did not enjoy it as much as I did. They felt it was out of character for her and that she should not write mysteries.
Although this book wasn't as attention grabbing as some of Weiner's other offerings, I still really like the way the story played out. Kate is a character that you can really identify with, and her friend Janie is one of the most eccentric characters I've ever read. A good book to read while traveling or something.
Set in the suburbian moms world, like the movie 'Unfaithful', you never know what is behind the facade. Great read.

Chick lit at its finest. Well written and with less of a "pat" plot than we are used to from Jennifer Weiner. For once her protagonist struggles with a darker side. A great read.

A sort of "chick-lit" mystery. I am not ashamed to admit that I enjoy chick-lit, and I thing Weiner is one of the better writers.
I don't think that I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed Little Earthquakes, however, Jennifer Weiner doesn't miss with her great sense of humor. She does really hit the head on the nail describing a mother's frustration with her kids and how her life has turned out, even though it's a great life and you love your children unconditionally, you sometimes still wonder how things might have been different had you made different choices in life. This is a good read and I know if you are loyal Jennifer Weiner fan then you'll really enjoy this book.

A quick, easy and fun read! I wish Jen would stray from the overweight woman who wants to fit in - but this was a fun, summer read w/a twist o' an ending. Forgettable but loads of fun while you're with it! I couldn't put it down.

I am a fan of Weiner, but this book was excellent, even for her. It is not your normal chick lit.
I really didn't care for this book. I have liked most of Jennifer Weiner's other books but I found the main character in this one annoying, almost a reverse snob. Also, the plot was not believable to me.
I hate to be mean but I really just did not like this book. Perhaps it's an East coast liberal thing, I dunno, but really not my style. Jennifer Weiner is funny but aside from that the story line was jumbled with lots of flashbacks and flashbacks within flashbacks. The ending drug on and was quite unclimatic and not really creative (IMO). It also wasn't a 'happy ending' which when I read it is for escape, I wanted a good ending...ho hum.
This should be under the category of "Mommy -Lit" as a non-mommy I could not relate to about half of the book. I liked some of ther other books better.

This book was so good, I couldn't put it down and read it in two days! It has a little of everything. It's witty and funny but also keeps you guessing. For once, I wasn't able to predict the ending.
One more by Weiner that is great...this one takes a new spin, that keeps you turning the pages..
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was had twists and turns and it kept me very interested. I have read all of Jennifer Weiners' novels and I love all of them. this one I think was my favorite.

A really fun, quick paced read. Well written and engaging with Weiner's usual sense of humor thrown in. If you've enjoyed Jennifer Weiner's other books, you'll enjoy this too.

Great book by Weiner! Hard to put down once you start into the story.
Definitely a page turner, like her other books. But I thought the "murder mystery" part of this one was not as strong.

Good story, great read, surprising ending. Wasn't what I was expecting, but very enjoyable, as are all her books.
Clear your calendar before you start reading this one. I couldn't put it down. Some parts are so funny and so true to life especially when Kate is talking about things her kids do and her feelings of being a less than perfect mother. At the same time, it's a great story about relationships as well as a murder mystery. You'll love it!
Another good book by Jennifer Weiner. A little different than her normal books - since it's got a mystery theme to it.
The wit and humor of this book were first-rate! I was a little frustrated with one aspect of the ending (don't want to give anything away!), but otherwise, loved it. :)

I loved this book! A murder mystery in a "stepfod Wives" type suburb. I could just see it as a movie. Great read, read in 2 days. I just couldn't put it down.

This book is great, it's smart, it's funny (I definately got some weird looks for laughing outloud while reading it)and it's one of my favorites. I've had it for a while and I can't even tell you how many times I've read it, but the only imperfections is a couple of bent corners on the front and back covers and maybe a dog-eared page or two that hasn't straightened out yet.

I have read all of Jennifer Weiner's books and loved them. I loved this one, too, but it is very different from previous books. Sure, it has the trials and tribulations of a pudgy, harried mom, but it's also a very engaging murder mystery. I think of it as Murder She Wrote meets Desperate Housewives.
