Has anyone read Gorky Park?  I've heard such wonderful things about it, and I have it around here somewhere.  I don't know what year it's set in, exactly.  If you've read it, would you consider it historical fiction?

I read it many years ago. IIRC, it's more espionage thriller, though it does center around facism/nazism. I can't remember if it happens during WWII or after, or if it's HF or alternate history. Sorry!

I do remember liking it a lot.

I know this is completely unhelpful & you can send raspberries my way, but the movie is great! William Hurt ... need I say more?

I've not read it, but my understanding is it is straight espionage and set fairly contemporary to when it was written (I just looked on Wikipedia, it came out in 1981)

1981?  Good grief!  I have trouble with novels set in the 1950's being history.  Thanks ladies.  I'll use it for the mystery challenge.

Kelly...never raspberries!  LOL

it is a wonderful book!!! i read it a long awhile ago and its sequel, "Polar Star." but like others already said, it's not hf. i'd classify it a straight spy thriller. martin cruz smith's books remind me a lot of ken follet's early stuff such as "eye of the needle."

It is a Cold War espionage thriller.

The Arkady Renko series is a favorite of mine :-)

Not HF but very good IMHO.
