Has anyone read the Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake? I read it this year and would like to 1- discuss it a bit and 2- know that I am not the only person who has read it.

I took my time because it was the fattest paperback I had ever encountered. Yes, I have the trilogy in paperback. I really enjoyed the first two books but then when I got into Titus Alone I started feeling conflicted. I also have started exploring older writings more because there are some real gems out there that are fifty or a hundred years old! George MacDonald was one of those for my entire family. Anyway, could there be another like Gormenghast out there? Should there be? Does it serve as the grandfather of horror the way Lord of the Rings serves as the grandfather of fantasy?

Let me know what you liked and didn't like.
