I am sooooo upset!!! This was the absolute best food magazine. They told you so much more than just recipes, and never caught up in all that cute-ness that seems to permeate most other mags that mostly just feature celebs and their products. Sigh. Their recipes really broadened my tastes, and my cooking, over the years. I just don't see anything else out there like it.

That's sad. My mother loved that magazine and swore by it, too. I never got into it myself but I hate to see it go anyway.

I couldn't afford to buy it often, but loved it. Now I'll be cruising ebay for lots of past issues. :-\

OUCH!  That magazine has been around for 68 years!!!  Many of us learned to cook our first "gourmet" meals from its' pages.  I'm going to miss it and I'm certain that I'm not the only one!

It seems they will be sending Bon Appetit as a replacement for those with subscriptions.  I can't remember when mine runs out...

A huge bummer!  I've become a huge fan of the magazine and their "Diary of a Foodie" show on PBS.  Will definitely miss it :(

Gourmet has a new food show on PBS that is just starting, starring the editor, Ruth Reichl. The brand will stay around in some form or another, at least for a while.

Please allow me to recommend Food And Wine magazine. I subscribed to it for a few years (and then got busier and let it lapse) and I quite enjoyed it. It has fewer recipes and more lifestyle stuff, but it was still classy and featured excellent food.

I was very surprised to learn that Conde Nast would be shutting down Gourmet and keeping Bon Appetit.  Both are good magazines but Gourmet certainly seems to have more history and prestige behind it.  I'm disappointed.  Bon Appetit is not a bad magazine but it's no substitute for Gourmet.

That's interesting.  About 6 months ago all of a sudden I started to receive the magazine.  I didn't subscribe so I have no idea why I was getting it.  After I received the 2nd issue I started getting regular letters telling me it was time for me to renew my subscription.  It all makes sense to me now.  Sounds like I got caught in a last ditch effort to bring in new customers to stave off bankruptcy.
