When a humble farmer named Pong Lo asks for the hand of the Emperor's beautiful daughter, the Emperor is enraged. Who ever heard of a peasant marrying a princess? But Pong Lo is wiser than the Emperor knows. And when he concocts a potion that saves the Princess's life, the Emperor gladly offers him any reward he chooses...except the Princess.

The setting starts out at the palace of the Emperor of China in the 15th Century. Pong Lo, a farmer's son, employed as a worker is set out to prove that he could make as fine a prince that China ever saw! The farmer's son did asked the Emperor for his daughter's hand in marriage and was denied because he was only a farmer's son. However, the farmer's son was reward with something else. He requested a grain of rice... the Emperor laughed. The Pong Lo says if you wish, you can double the grain of rice for 100 days.
