Grand Avenue is a real street in Santa Rosa, California. Not a very glamourized depiction of the Pomo indians.

10 closely related stories, told from the viewpoints of various native American residents of Grand Avenue (a real, not-so-grand street 2 blocks long, running North-South, near the Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California).
Sarris did not grow up in this community, having discovered his Native American heritage in his college years. He went on to fight for the legal tribal establishment of this group he is writing about (The Coastal Miwok), and of course, the next step in modern America, fought for the establishment of a casino on beautiful, unspoiled land south of Highway 37.
