This book is a fast and great read. I never imagined myself reading this type of book but I heard a lot of good reviews and now I know why. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves those CSI shows or loves murder mystery books.

Another excellent book by Kathy Reichs. This one she takes us to South Amercia initially to help identify bodies from a mass grave in a villiage. These are 'Disappeared' people. While there she ends up getting pulled into a murder investigation to identify a young woman. And of course this leads her back to Canada. The mysteries abound in this one and all appear to tangle together at one point or another.

Temperance Brennan is helping her Guatemalan colleagues identify the remains of villagers who were "disappeared" 20 years ago when she's called in to consult on four more recent disappearances. Is there a serial killer loose in Guatemala City, or is the fate of the young women who've gone missing--including the daughter of the Canadian ambassador--connected to the murder of a human-rights investigator looking into the decades-old massacre?

A Good Read! The story takes you from Guatemala to Montreal and back. Temperance Brennan is working with an agency to find and identify the bodies of the people murdered by corrupt and depraved security forces during Guatemala's recent violent history. When the mass grave is found, it triggers a frightening chain of events. Two members of their group are attacked and left for dead on the road. Were they mistaken for someone else? In the midst of it all, Tempe is asked to come to Guatemala City to help the police identify a body they found. Several young girls have gone missing and they believe the body may be one of them. Is a serial killer responsible? One girl is the daughter of the Canadian ambassador. All of a sudden, the DA and his friends swoop in and take all the evidence. It's clear they don't want Tempe's help. Assassins even follow her back home to Montreal. Clearly, there is a secret to be unearthed. Can she do it in time? Very good book.

In this installment Tempe is in Guatemala as part of a volunteer group working to locate and recover "the disappeared", the remains of those who vanished during the civil war from 1962 to 1999. While there she becomes enmeshed in the cases of four privileged young women who have vanished from Guatemala City.
This was a facinating read that more than met my expectations for a Kathy Reichs novel.

This is the earliest Bones book I've read in the series, book 5. Tempe's character was much more flat in this one than the later episodes I've read. There were some jumps in the narrative where Tempe eventually brings a tangent back to show the reader the relevance, whereas a more coherent thought process is detailed in the later books. Overall, I wasn't thrilled, but it wasn't a bad book.

I really liked this book. It has a lot of medical jargon in it so I skipped through that. It's really suspenseful and keeps you guessing.

Ryan speaks Spanish!

What the author does with this series: Kathy Reichs started off slow but gets better and better. This is part of the series called the Tempe Brenner â Forensic Anthropologist. This paragraph applies to all books in this series. Tempe is a anthropologist who works for medical examiners in Montreal, Quebec and Charlotte North Caroline

Even though the books are often very detailed in both location and the examination of the remains, the story often moves faster than you expect.

Do you need to read this series in order: YES or you miss out on too much of the back stories.

Triggers: This is a book about medical examiners at its core, so lots of references to dead bodies, some are described in strong detail (in a forensic way). Our anthropologist ends up in some life threatening situations and on a couple of occasions in the series, animals are killed, sometimes gratuitously. Relatives of Tempe often in up wounded as the bad persons try to get to her through her family.

This book had a very different setting, which made it great.
