I really enjoyed Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln's Mother & Other Botanical Atrocities by Amy Stewart. As the reader flips through the pages of this informative book, he/she can learn about villanous vegetables and beautiful blooms/seeds/leaves that are extremely poisonous and might be lurking in one's backyard. Check out http://www.wickedplants.com for more info.

Oh, in case you are interested, the white snakeroot led to Nancy Hanks Lincoln's demise at age 34 in 1818.
