This is one of my favorite series and I've read it over and over again as a kid and now as an adult! You'll recognize the "rascalness" of a Tom Sawyer character. John, JD, tells of growing up in the late 1800's with his very clever, conniving brother, Tom, TD. You'll be impressed that this kid is able to figure out logical solutions to his and the adults' problems all while lining his pockets. In this book, TD rescues two boys, gets rid of a teacher and helps an immigrant and a injured boy better themselves. This book is the first in the series (the series is chronological) and all are worth the read! Unfortunately, starting with "Academy", the books are somewhat hard to find. The series is listed below:
The Great Brain
More Adventures of the Great Brain
Me and My Little Brain
The Great Brain at the Academy - My favorite, if I had to pick - GB vs. Catholic school!
The Great Brain Reforms
The Return of the Great Brain
The Great Brain Does It Again
The Great Brain is Back

This series of books was very popular when the elementary school I was attending received them; the library had a wait list on each of the books as my schoolmates and I were anxious to read each one. I was thrilled to receive this copy so many years later, and I enjoyed reading it probably more than I did when I was a child. I'm definitely going to search for the rest of the books in the series.

For ages 8 and up. First book in the popular series. Fun, quick paced reading. This book is in great shape for reading - only flaw is the back cover is torn at the binding edge almost all the way up.
