Murders abound! This is my second book by Rinehart. I thought the "Circular Staircase" was very good but I believe I liked this one better. The writing is of course from the time period of Rinehart, but that does not take away from the story. I liked the MC, Pat Abbot and a few others and was sad one of them was a murder victim. I did not know for sure who the killer was until very near the end of the book. This is a well written, suspenseful mystery. I was excited to read all the way to the finish. I intend to read more of Ms Rinehart's works.

From the author of over sixty mysteries, a story of intrique and villainy. The heroine, Patricia, gets drawn into a mystery involving lies, secrets, and cold blooded murder.

Before Agatha Christie, before Dorothy L. Sayers, there was Mary Roberts Rinehart. And, frankly, her mystery novels are a great deal more realistic (in a fantastical way) than her successors. Too bad that her work is largely unsung today, except maybe at Gutenberg.com if you are into that. The unanswered questions build throughout, culminating in rather simple, yet plausible explanation at the end.
