Having read a lot of posts lately about people who have had a negative experience with swaps and even those who question if it's worth it, I just wanted to contribute my positive experience and let people know that there are great swappers here as well.  When I logged into my account this morning I had a PM from a person I had ordered 2 books from several days ago.  She explained that she had accidentally mailed them to the wrong person and had ordered new books from amazon and had them shipped directly to me!  I really appreciate both her honesty and what she did.  She did not have to do that.  I would have understood the situation and either waited if she expected the books to be returned or just ordered them from someone else (neither were WL).  So I guess my point is for everyone who has had bad experiences - especially if you are new and getting discouraged, there really are great people involved with PBS too.

I second this.  My goodness, one person sent me a book from my wish list and we had a great PM conversation and she then sent me four books off my wish list as a surprise--no credits involved!  I was stunned at such generosity.  She lets me know when she has posted books I might be interested in and I have ordered more from her, and they have been great!

And I have gotten so many books from so many members that were in great condition, carefully wrapped, mailed promptly.  That is wonderful, and is the norm rather than the exception in my experience.  So many people write "Enjoy!" on the wrapper.  It is clear that they are happy to share their books with me, and I appreciate it.

Kindness happens all the time here!

Melissa, thanks for posting this.  New members may not realise that the forums don't record these great, everyday happenings.  It is only human nature to complain.  If everyone posted about every terrific swap they had, the forums would have nothing else in them....

I agree, too!  A couple of months ago, I PM'd a guy telling him I wanted to put him on my Buddy List so that I could order some audio books from him when I got some credits.  The next day he buddied me 5 credits just because.  So I promptly ordered from him.  I love this place!

What great experiences!  It feels like a community to me--much more than just a website.

I must say that there are a lot of days when coming here is the only good thing that has happened to me. Thanks to every single one of you, behind the scenes and up close and personal.

Yup, I just ordered "Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West" from a member.  She sent along a copy of "Black Gold" (both by Marguerite Henry) free of charge!  What a treat!  Yes, there are lots of wonderful members here!

These stories are good to hear - I too have been getting very discouraged with this site lately. I was thinking about giving up on it, but as this thread reminds me, there are good swappers out there. And the site itself is great.

I've had really good luck with books from the site.  I've gotten a few unpostables, but very few, relatively speaking, and I have had some really good chats with people via PM.  This really is a community, and the vast majority of people are really kind

Oh, I just had a GREAT experience recently where a member sent me a brand new book that she had taken the time to get autographed!  Apparently, she was at a book signing and just thought that someone might like the book.  It was really so generous I couldn't believe it.

I've had many good experiences here that show the generosity of our members.  I ordered a mystery from a member, and she included another from the same author just because!  We PM'd back and forth a great deal and I try to make sure she knows when I've found a great new author.

Another terrific member had a deal in the Bazaar of kid's books.  She realized that one of the books I'd ordered had a tear in it and she sent along 4 more kids' books to make up for it!  I realize that kids are so hard on their books, and I would have been fine with it, but she went above and beyond.

There are wonderful people here on PBS :))

I -LOVE- this site and there are SOOOO many great people on it.  I've "met" so many members that I consider friends.  I've received GOBS of wonderful books from members, and have my share of "feel good" stories too.  Just so many WONDERFUL folks here!   Once, a person mailed book to me without my Apt. #, and it was returned to her, then she remailed without enough postage (oops), so she had to pay return postage when it came back to her, and yet she was willing to send it out AGAIN to me a THIRD time since I really did want the book.  (She paid postage on this book FOUR times!!)

The good folks FAR outweigh the bad apples here, although you can't see that by reading most of the forum posts, which do tend unfortunately to emphasize the problems.

I became a Tour Guide just because I'm such a fan and cheerleader of the site and I love to help others to love this place as much as I do!
