It took me more than 20 years to deal with the death of my father, which happened when I was 11. This book, along with "The Loss That is Forever" helped me cross that hurdle that had been holding me back from getting on with my life. Very well presented. I recommend both in the quest to heal.

This book was really eye-opening for me. It also includes some activities to be completed as you go along that I found very useful and plan to continue. One of the key takeaways I got from this is how we learn/are taught to cope with loss and other stresses from a very young age. And how most of those "lessons" are fallacies that just create problems rather than resolve them. Society wants us to be ok, to be strong and in control. So we act like we are, when in reality, we may be hanging on by a thread.

Most of it seems like it should be common sense, but it's amazing to see how our habits and programmed behaviors limit our ability to see that. It's no wonder that mental illness is the most prevalent health problem in America today, more so than cancer, heart and lung disease combined.

We lost our son to leukemia and received books about grief. This book was very helpful and easy to read.
