This book starts the follow up to the Belgariad series, which you should read first. I really enjoyed Belgariad, but I had a hard time getting into Malloreon. I find Ce'Nedra (a fairly major character) to be really, really annoying. She didn't play as major of a role in Belgariad, so that was ok, but now, every time she was in a scene, I would cringe. All the other characters are great, and it was nice to have some closure on the whole story. A good, but not great read. It can be somewhat predictable if you've read any of Edding's other books.
