I am reading 'Leah' by James R. Stout, which I am enjoying a great deal. My mother told me it was part of a series of short novels about the women of the Bible which she used to own, but no longer does. It is published by Guideposts, so I went to their website, but the website does not include information on books they publish, only on the magazine, stories from the magazine, ect. I really like well written novels fictionalizing a story or character from the Bible, and I am enjoying this one. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to track down the rest of them? I love the women of the Bible and would love to read them all. |

I tried looking under this author and guideposts, but did not find this particular series. I do know that Lois Henderson wrote a series of about 6 books on women of the Bible that I believe were very popular, but I have not read them. Another I would recommend would be by Marek Halter. He wrote a series also on women of the Bible primarily from Genesis. The first two and Sarah and Zipporah. I have read them both and found them to be very good. I think there is a third but I have not yet read it. |

You are having a problem finding them because you misspelled his last name. It is Shott. There are several of his books posted here on PBS and several of his unposted titles are listed as well. Hope this will help. |

Francine Rivers has also done some short books on various Biblical people, including a few women. I haven't read them, but I've read half a dozen or so of her full novels, and LOVE them. |

thank you, everyone. I did look here, under the authors correctly spelled name, and you are right, he has several. Along with that, the suggestionsof other authors will help me read many more in this fascinating genre. In reading his book on Leah, I came across something that had come up in Bible study with my pastors wife a few years ago. We were reading of the rape of Dinah and the sinful reaction of her brothers, and I said I was unsure of the meaning of the word 'rape', which in that time would have been used to describe sex with any woman, consentual or not, that you were not married to yet. My ministers wife assured me that the Hebrew word used in that verse was reserved for violent, nonconsentual rape, usually stranger rape. Yet Shott wrote the story exactly as I had asked about - that Dinah had a consentual affair before her father had given her in marriage. Anyone have an opinion or refrence sorce on the difference of opinion? |
