From the first page, this book's author grabs the reader and they careen down the highway at a break-neck speed. The stakes are high for the Supreme Court Chief Justice and Nick Heller has 48 hours to squash the lies. This is Nick Heller's third or fourth job, depending on the numbering system you use (see book list below).

Nick Heller has opened his own business and business is still a bit slow. Thus, he is surprised when one of the most lauded and influential men in America asks for Nick's help. But Nick has the savvy and the training to take on this difficult and sensitive case. One interesting aspect of this story is watching how the Internet and 24 hour news reporting has changed politics in DC. The Slander Sheet, an online news service with a shadowy owner, shines a glaring light on the hypocrisy and lies in Tinseltown and the nation's capital. They have the Chief Justice in their sights but offer to hold the story for 2 days.

It is when Nick and his team try to find the power behind the lies that things go sideways. Nick meets crooked ex-cops, a threatened (then murdered) call girl and a gung-ho news reporter who is about to lose her journalistic reputation.

This is an exciting story with lots of loops and twists. However, when Nick turns his attention to the power behind the bogus story, the culprit seems obvious.

3.0 out of 5 stars -- This third in the Nick Heller series is fast-paced entertainment.

Nick, a private spy, is called to Washington, DC, to fix a situation involving an internet story about a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and a prostitute. The narrative is one that involves nonstop action and includes conspiracy and betrayal as well as interaction with a shadowy organization that solves problems for those who can afford them. Nick, trying to separate the lies from the truth, has his usual share of nearly impossible escapes and of courses manages a romantic interlude in the midst of his investigation.

Fans of this author and the series will not want to miss this one. Though very predictable, it was an enjoyable read. Nick Heller is the male hero archetype of this genre and of course the dialog is snappy and his skills very impressive as he seeks justice and an answer in this case.

Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Dutton for the e-book ARC to review.

This is a "new to me" author and I'm so glad it found me! I loved the fast moving plot about Nick Heller, a highly capable Private Investigative Spy hired by lawyers and politicians to solve problems.

It starts out when Nick is hired to refute a story about the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He has 48 hours to prove the story is fabricated. Nick suspects there is something more ominous going on even if he can disprove the lie.

I totally enjoyed this thriller and look forward to more of this author's works.
