Inspector Wexford and his assistant, Burden, investigate the death of Elizabeth Nightingale, who lived a gracious life with her husband, Quentin, at Myfleet Manor in the English countryside. It appears her life was not so happy, and family secrets are revealed. A good read.

A beloved wife is murdered when she goes for an evening walk. The series is getting better and better. Insp. Wexford and Det. Burden are more lifelike and real. They sift through the clues and in the process you get a good sense of the village and the suspects.
