After reading a Lovecraft-inspired short story by Neil Gaiman, I am curious to check out some original Lovecraft stories.  Any suggestions on where to start?

Read "At the Mountain of Madness". It has lots of short stories full of chills.

I just started "The Annotated Lovecraft" (or some such similar title).  It's a collection of several short stories/novellas, and although the annotations make it slower reading, it really helps understand and appreciate the material!

I think The Call of Cthulhu is probably the best starting point. And, just for fun, stop by http://www.dagonbytes.com.
