Geez - I could use some help!  I read a book years ago and I can't find it in any of my boxes of books and can't remember title or author.  And just to let you know how long I've been thinking about this book and looking - we moved 3 years ago in August and I was looking for it after we moved in all my boxes of books. 

Took place in England - woman was engaged to a man in his 40's who had a teenage daughter - another man comes along and I think somehow gets her to marry him instead.  Hero is the old fiance's enemy, also hero may be foreign or part foreign to England?  I remember the end the best - the villan (older fiance) likes young girls and is supplied them through a bawdy house and the girls are kidnapped.  His daughter gets kidnapped and he goes into the room to rape a young girl and finds her.  And of course the daughter thinks he is there to rescue her.  The villan at the end commits suicide and of course the book has lots more going on in it - but I can't remember it all.  Just that when I originally read it I liked the mystery and the main couple.  Does anyone know this book and author???

This is Silk and Shadows by Mary Jo Putney. One of my favorites by her.
