My SIL sent me a book on CD, but she didn't have the box, just the discs.  I listened to it today (LONG car trip) and I'd like to post it...but no ISBN.  I could probably look it up and figure out what the ISBN should be...but should I do that?  Or should I post it like a book with no ISBN?

Help!

If someone has it WL'ed, your non-ISBN posting won't match, and you'll both be "cheated".

Are Audio like printed books and have multiple versions and ISBNs? If that is the case you need to post it as a book without an ISBN. I would think there are different copies such as abridged and unabridged. Typically it is not acceptable to look up an ISBN that is not on the book and post it that way, you need the ISBN on it. Audio may be a different duck if they are only printed under one number and never printed without one.

Post it just like a book that doesn't have an ISBN showing. You can copy/paste all the information from the ISBN copy listed in the system, but you cannot assign the ISBN to your copy since you cannot prove that it is that particular edition. Could be a Book Club Edition, could be another publisher reprint, etc. You can only input that information that you can positively identify to your specific copy.

If it is a WL edition, you could post in the Book Bazaar to draw attention to it, since the WL will not connect it to those WL'ng for it, or perhaps make a note in your sig line for people that read the forums. But, as a general rule, those who really want a book, will search by title, not just ISBN and your copy will get picked up soon :)

Sherry...thank you!  I didn't feel comfortable "assigning" an ISBN at all, but CD's typically don't have as many editions to choose from so I thought it could be narrowed down if need be.  I've never seen the box, but the discs show publisher, copyright and of course author/title.  (My SIL has FIVE of these like this; apparently my nephew felt he needed the boxes for tunnels for his cars, or something...and the dog thought it was funny to try and eat the tunnel when it jiggled.)

I never thought about seeing if it was wishlisted; I'll look into that too!

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this....sometimes it just takes more than one brain.  ;)
