I was just wondering what you do when you receive a book with an extremely late postmark.

A book I requested was (according to the details) was mailed on July 4, 2007.  I received a couple of emails from PBS asking if I received the book yet.  Since I had not received the book yet, I went ahead and emailed the sender on July 18th, letting them know that I hadn't received the book and that I did not forget to give them a credit.

Well, on July 30 the book was declared lost.  Since I had not heard  a reply to my email from the sender, I just assumed that maybe they didn't mail it.  So, I went ahead and requested the book again from another sender (which according to the details, has already been mailed out.)  Well, low and behold, I receive the original book today (August 4, 2007) in the mail.  The thing is that the book is postmarked August 1, 2007.  Almost a whole month later than what was said.

I guess I am just venting, but I would be interested in what others think or might do.

Thank you for listening.

Cindy

It's annoying but what can you do.  At least the sender mailed it, even if it was incredibly late.  Mark it recieved and be sure and note the postmark on the feedback form when you mark it received,  Could be a newbie who needs to figure out the system or possibly just an honest mistake, either way it should be noted by R&R and this is the best way.

Thanks Tammy for the suggestion.  That's what I did and I guess the good news is that it's wishlisted by about 14 other people, so I guess I can get one of them off my shelf.  I appreciate your input.

Wonder if we ordered something from the same person!  A book I ordered was marked as mailed on 7/7 and after the system declared it lost, I got it one day later and it was postmarked the 28th.

I once ordered two books from a member and after three weeks they still hadn't arrived.  While I was waiting, I actually borrowed one of the books from the library and read and returned it before it arrived.  I figured that the books were lost and I started to feel bad for the member, that they were going to be out two books.  I had planned on even giving the member a gift credit after they were officially declared lost because I felt so bad.  Well, after three and a half weeks, I finally got the books.  They were post marked only a few days earlier.  I marked them received (noting the postmark date) and took no other action.  I thought about sending a PM to the member but didn't.  It would have been nice if they had sent me a PM.

I think we ordered from the same person!  I too sent an email and got no response and then the book arrived and it was post marked at least 3 weeks after it was supposedly sent and then took another 2 weeks to arrive.  What made me angry was the fact that they didn't respond to my email asking about the book.  I understand about life getting in the way and wouldn't have minded at all if they just had responded instead of ignoring me.
