I finally found 2 children's books to order from here and within days from each other found out neither one of them will be sent.  Both said they no longer have them.  Is this typical for members to keep books on their bookshelf that they no longer have? I'm just disappointed.

Some books that have been listed for a while wind up "growing legs and taking a walk." They disappear and the owner doesn't know it until they look for them.

Were they the only copies of the books Debbie? If there are other copies, the system should just order the next copy for you.

I too have been ocassionally frustrated by requesting a book only to get a turndown with the explanation that they donated that book months ago (why didn't you remove it from your bookshelf then?) or they can't find it. But it is not the norm in my experience. As long as there are other copies in the system it's just a passing annoyance. When it's a book you were excited about getting and that now-unavailable book was the only copy and it goes on my WL, then I'm not so happy, like you.

Debbie, it happens to me.  If a book has been on my shelf for a long time, sometimes when I go looking for it I can't find it.

If it wasn't the only copy in the system, PBS should automatically order the next one for you.  If it was, put it on your wish list and you'll get the next copy.

Several years ago, I posted a book (and I do keep my books on special shelves, so I know where they are at all times) and someone ordered it. I went to get it and couldn't find it on the shelf, so thought maybe I'd put it with my unread books, nope not there.  I looked everywhere several times, and couldn't find it, so had to decline the request. I never did find the book and I know I put it on my shelf after I'd read it.  Good luck. Pat

Yea, it happens, I hate it too. While I understand if it has been available for awhile, I don't get it when I check my reminder list, it is finally available, and then they can't send it. They just posted it if it popped up my reminder list, right? WTH?

That just happened to me, too.  I ordered two books from someone offering a deal.  She cancelled the transaction because her bookshelf was out of date.  My requests then jumped to the next two people who had those books posted, without my realizing it.  Now I am getting one book each from two separate transactions, without "the deal".

Very confusing for me and annoying.

+1 Marni--  yeah, just irritating when you order 'extra' to save someone postage or just for the deal then it gets split up.
