How often does this happen to you? I have had 3 books arrive in the last week that were listed as hard cover and arrived in soft cover. I PM them and they say they never had a hard cover version, or that the system just listed it that way.

Its so frustrating. How do we go about fixing these wrong listings? I mean the system part. PBS I think would get irritated with me if I wrote them every time I found a mistake in the listings.

Furthermore, these wrong item received are piling up. It looks bad in my history. I had a perfect swap history till last week. Now it seems every third swap has an issue.

Got a book two days ago that had a section of pages separated from the spine. Of course its still readable but darn. And I feel bad for the sender because they paid to send it then had to give up the credit.

The listing is not wrong - the senders are in the wrong. You should marking these RWAP - wrong book and asking for your credit back if you want it (though I always recommend doing so so that people understand they cannot benefit from incorrectly posting a book). It is against the posting rules on this site to post a paperback to a listing that says hard cover. They are warned of it when they post the book that it must match so don't feel sorry for them, they should have know better than to send the book.

There will be many case like this because the publishers often re-use the ISBN for more than one version of the book. The first one into the system get the ISBN and the rest need to be posted as a book without an ISBN.

You can send them this information from the Help Center:

Confirm that your book matches the information in the Book Listing Preview 

  • You will see the text below the Book Listing Preview:

    This is how your book listing will appear in the PBS library. 

    Do the Title, Author, ISBN and Book Type match your book EXACTLY?

    Please note: book cover image shown does NOT need to match your book.

  • If all of the information (ISBN, title, author, booktype) on the Book Listing Preview matches your book EXACTLY click  .   Do not click Refresh on your browser while the button reads "Processing..."  Doing this may cause the book to be Posted twice.

If your book does NOT match the information in the Book Listing Preview:

  • If it is a minor difference, such as a misspelled title or the wrong author first name, you can post the book and submit corrections afterward using the Edit Book Data link.
  • If the booktype is different (if your book is a paperback, and the Preview shows hardcover, for example):
    • You will need to post the book without an ISBN
  • If the book title says "(Large Print)" and your book is regular-size font:
    • You will need to post the book without an ISBN

To Post a Book Without an ISBN:

  • Click the link "Post a Book Without an ISBN" at the top of the Post Books page.

Thank you. She , one member, did refund the credit without a fuss.

The other I did not ask her because she sent two other books free as an advertised deal. I felt the situation fair as I would have requested the other books for credit so this one could just be the freebie.

This happened to me recently. I just figured the person was a little careless and posted by title and didn't match up the numbers. The ISBN numbers didn't match, but the sender swore they typed in the number....I cross checked the numbers and they were not even close. 

 

It was really fusterating, because it was a WL book and I'd been waiting FOREVER and could have gotten the paperback version at anytime!  I wouldn't want to accuse anyone, but wonder if in such a situation you'd see the system was flooded with paperbacks, and had  hardcovers wishlisted...seems a quick way to get a credit. Hopefully these are just honest mistakes though.

I'm lucky though, the sender was really great about it and we solved the issue quickly.

i had the same experience as Beth.  It happened to me 3 times and although it was in a way frustrating and inconvenient for me since the books were WL, I do feel sorry for the senders because at the end of the day, they have to give the credit back and lose the money on postage. 

I wonder how often this happens.....
