Thought this book was good, but much more graphic than the others that I've read in the series. A little too much violence/ blood-and-gore for my tastes.

As always set against the background of a National Park, I would have given this book another star had there been just a little less to it. The main plot is quite good and the welcome introduction of a disabled camper and her aunt made me wonder if perhaps there was another series in Barr's future. There are two subplots, however, and both seem artificially tied into the main book - sometimes with confusing results. Well worth the read, but if you are new to the series, go back and start with the older books.

I love Barr's Anna Pigeon mysteries and this one was no exception. However, this was much darker than her previous books and the 'ick factor' was present throughout much of the story. I am anxious to see what happens next with Anna and where she'll end up next time around.

Once you get started reading this book, it's hard to put it down. Anna Pigeon takes up her new post in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Heath Jarrod, an angry quadriplegic, meets two young, nearly naked and injured girls who have been lost for weeks. The story that links them together will tug at your heart, chill your blood and keep you guessing.

As always, Nevada Barr has produced another page turner. Can't put it down for long, until the last page is read.

I was a little disappointed that I 'knew" who the killer was fairly early on in the book. I changed my mind a few times throughout the book, but my initial guess was right. I really enjoyed the scenery in the book. The descriptions of the area are great!

I think I enjoyed the writer as much as the book. This author has
been around enough and read enough to keep the story and reader's
attention.

I'm so glad that Anna is back in the mountains! This book was darker than her previous work, she really keeps this one on a knife's edge. Then tension is extraordinary, the last quarter of the book kept me glued to the pages.

Ranger Anna Pigeon, Nevada Barr's series heroine (High Country, Flashback), meets her match in this engrossing new thriller set in Rocky Mountain National Park. Heath Jarrod is a climber now confined to a wheelchair after an accident that left her crippled, angry and depressed: "For a few months after the fall, she'd played Christopher Reeve, pretending to be as optimistic, as cheerful, but she was a lousy actor and ... she'd rung down the curtain. The first of many curtains." But there's a second act in her future that begins when two terrified, half-naked little girls stumble out of the woods and into Heath's "handicamp"--they've been missing for weeks, but are too traumatized to tell Heath and then Anna where they've been, or what happened to the third girl who disappeared with them. Beth, the younger, wins Heath's heart; with Anna, she pursues an investigation that leads to a bizarre, quasi-religious cult that's set up its headquarters just outside the park's boundaries, and the youth group leader who'd taken the girls into the wilderness and returned without them. Is Robert Proffit the gentle, spiritual man Anna's seasonal law enforcement agent Rita Perry thinks he is, or a twisted rapist and probable killer whose prayers for the innocent girls in his charge mask his evil nature?
The mysteries keep piling on, as one gruesome discovery leads to another, and Heath begins to realize that even though she's lost the use of her legs, the same tenacity that made her one of the world's leading mountaineers has even more rewarding summits to achieve.

Anna Pigeon is still working in the parks, Rockie Mt this time, and still finding more than her share of trouble lurking in the bushes. Very suspenseful with an unlikely co-heroine and too much action for Anna to even call Molly. Kept me guessing and awake turning pages.

Very good. Lots of twists and turns, will keep your attention and keep you guessing until the very end. Love aLL of Nevada Barr's books and the Anna Pidgeon series is excellent, good mystery, and great interesting locations. Her writing takes you to all sorts of beautiful locations and is so vivid, you really feel like you are there also.

I have been a fan of the adventures of Anna Pidgeon, law enforcement National Park Ranger as told by Nevada Barr, who is a retired park ranger herself, for over a decade. I have enjoyed each one of the adventures I have read. I liked some of them so much I read them more than once. Anna is a heroine after my own heart. She shares many of my beliefs, loves and some formative experiences. Who could dislike a woman who is so passionate in her love of nature and animals, especially cats! Try one of these tales. It makes no difference which one you read first as they all can stand alone. I look forward to spending more time with my friend Anna. Long may Nevada Barr continue to write.
