This is an authoritative and profound treatise, listing all known chemical hazards, and describing and placing them in their chemical context. It is extensively documented from research and development, and industrial, environmental, and medical resources in North America, East and Western Europe, and Russia.

The Elements and their respective compounds are dealth with sequentially as they appear in the periodic table, in order of increasing atomic number within the table's subgroups. An extensive appendix tabulates physical and chemical properties.

Natually occurring levels of each element in environmental media and the human body are given, with detailed descriptions of immediate and longer-term effects of toxic concentrations on animals, humans, microoganisms, plants, and fish. Absorption, distribution, and elimination of the elements are described, and dietary requirements and tolerances are indicated where available. A section on first-aid measures in cases of poisoning is included in most chapters.

Readership: Toxicologists, inorganic chemists, industrial chemists and hygienists, environmental scientists, health and safety inspectors, biologists and ecologists.
