Have any of you read this series?  I was hesitant to start it because I'm not a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I got the first one and liked it so much that I went out and bought the next two today.  The title of the first one is "Grave Sight".  It doesn't have any vampires or traditional "paranormal" characters, but the main character can locate dead bodies and see how they died.  I'm really enjoying it so far!

Beth,

I like you do not like the Sookie series however I love this series.  I've read the first 3 and number 4 just came out last month and I'm waiting to read that one however if I remember correctly the fourth one is the last one in this series which is kind of a bummer because I really like these books.

Aw, man... that really stinks.  I finished the first one today and really enjoyed it.  I saw another series on the shelves at the book store today, but I don't know anything about that one.

Saw her at the book signing for the latest book. She did confirm that this was the last book for the Harper series.

I'm not really into Sookie either, but I love the Harper Connelly series.  So sad that it is finished.  If you haven't read Charlaine Harris's Lily Bard series (the five books with Shakespeare in the title) I think it is even a little better than the Harper Connelly series.  No paranormal at all in the Lily Bard series.  They need to be read in order. I just reread them and they were just as good this time around.

I agree, the Lily Bard books are great.  I also really like the Aurora Teagarden books - although the first one is not my favorite, I think the rest get better (but you need to read the first one for the background IMO).  Harper Connelly is also great - but I read the fourth (and yes, final) one, so I won't say anything else so I don't give anything away.

Aw, the last? :( I'm a big fan of this series (though a certain development in the 3rd eeked me out) I've been a huge Sookie fan since the first book was originally released and the rest of Harris's series, but you really can't compare them. I love how original this is, hopefully she'll at least have the characters in short stories in the future...

She hinted that she has an idea for a new series, IF the publisher will let her write it. And she is under contract for 3 more Sookie books after the one coming out in May.

Based on the last one, 3 more Sookie books might be a few too many...but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Loved the Harper Connelly Series and I am sad to see it end. But in an interview that I saw Ms. Harris said it was really hard to keep the series going since each book had to take place at a different location and she could not develop characters.  I have the Teagarden series but I have not started it yet.  I am so glad to hear it is good - I love Ms. Harris's writing.

I have read all of these series by Charlaine Harris.  I love the Sookie books, don't like the show.

Liked the Aurora Teagarden books.  They do have unexpected twists to them, and things do not always go well for the characters (which I like in any book) but I kept wondering how many mass murderers could there really be in such a small town! LOL

The Lily Bard series I read and kinda could have lived without.  I didn't like any of the characters enough to really get involved with them and the stories were forget - able at best.  The main character is not very likable nor is her boyfriend so it was hard for me to have the proper empathy for her.  If you like really damaged people (and usually I do), this series is for you.

I like the Grave series VERY much.  Very interesting stories, interesting little paranormal stuff, kinda gritty, very real people in all the stories, very real situations.  Good secondary characters and good background without too much repetition.  I feel that these books got better with each one, the fourth and last was the best.  Sorry there won't be another, but she did finish the story for the reader.

Charlaine Harris really captures the working class values and thinking, life is often gritty and not very pretty, when bad things happen to good people kinda feel to a story.

I really didn't like the Aurora Teagarden series.  Really glad I got them from the library.

The Lily Bard series was much darker.

I'm a huge Harper fan.  And Sookie as well.

I just finished the 4th book in two days.  I am sad to see it end too.  I read on her website that was all she was contracted to write and she did have to struggle with the characters development with the changes in location.

I loved the Lily Bard series, it was dark but she managed to make something of her life after what happened to her.  It was also interesting to find out from the Harris discussion boards that the author used some events in her life in that story line.  That impressed me a lot because revealing such emotional details can be difficult to do.

I do like how Harris writes but wonder how she is going to wrap up Sookie. I was feeling down after the ending of the last book, hope it will pick up a bit.

I love both of Harris' book series. I too was sad to see her end it at the fourth book. I got a chance to listen in on her panels at Dragon Con and she explained that the reason she ended it after the 4th book was because it was a difficult series dut to the complete change in location and cast and that she was having a hard time "reinventing the wheel" with each book. I liked the way she left it, though. I was sad but not disappointed.
