The authors do a good job on covering the subject of HATE CRIMES in the United States. They present a lot of statistical facts as well as actual cases in support of their statement that Hate Crimes are a major problem in the United States. I got the feeling that they feel that the states and federal governments aren't doing enough about it. Though the information is a little dated, 1993, it does seem like the problem still exists today. The book covers just about every avenue in this behavior to include their feel in the police department, judicial system and community support. A good educational book even if you are not interested in the subject.
