A Great New Installment in the Whiskey Creek series!

When Phoenix Fuller returns to Whiskey Creek after serving 17 years in prison for a crime she didnt commit, all she wants is to build a relationship with her son, Jacob, and mother, Lizzie. Unfortunately, the families of her sons father, Riley Stinson, and the girl she was convicted of murdering, Lori Mansfield, still live in the same town and dont want her anywhere near them. But when Phoenix and Riley meet again, the attraction that brought them together so many years earlier is still strong, and with the bond of their son between them, they are repeatedly drawn into each others company. And so the story unfolds...

Brenda Novak has written a solid, gutsy story of love and redemption. Part of the wonderful Whiskey Creek series, I definitely liked this one the best so far. Readers have been teased with bits and pieces of Phoenix and Rileys story all along the way mentioned as a sidebar in each of the previous couples tales, and I really expected Phoenix to be a wild-eyed, crazy person. The character couldnt have been further from the truth. Riley, the immature, teenage boy that was involved with the young Phoenix, has also grown into a mature, loving man and father, and the best male lead of all Brendas Whiskey Creek heroes.

I can easily recommend this book especially to those that have experience the previous episodes in the series. (Though not required this book will stand on its own the foreshadowing of the previous novels just made this ones telling and resolution that much more enjoyable.)

This series just keeps getting better and better!! If you've read the first seven books of the series you know that Phoenix was sent to prison for vehicular manslaughter.

The person she killed was the girl that Riley started dating after he'd broken up with Phoenix because of pressure from his parents. You also know that Phoenix gave birth to Riley's son during the first year of her sentence. Phoenix never held her baby and Riley got full custody of Jacob.

Now it's 16 years later and Phoenix is home, living in a run down trailer next door to her dysfunctional mother. Phoenix is hoping that Riley will allow her to get to know her son. That is all that she wants and she doesn't want to cause Riley any problems. Riley has spent those 16 years hating her and doesn't welcome her return to town, he doesn't trust her and definitely doesn't want her in Jacob's life. But this story is about love and forgiveness and second chances and learning to trust again.
