I'm tempted to read this, yet I don't want to if he's the same as his dad.  Is this just basically like reading Stephen King?  I don't like King anymore.  Is this fresher than King?  Does Hill have his own style?  Is this a book where the main character is self righteous and arrogant like many of King's women we are supposed to like?  I'd like some input before I read this, especially from non Stephen King fans.  I really don't want to waste my time on this if its the same ole same ole stuff like his dad's.

King fanatics don't be hating on me now lol.

Unique is what I'm looking for.  Is Heart Shaped Box as scary as they say?  I've seen it on several "Scariest of all time" lists.

I would definitely read it. I am also really hard to actually scare but this book really kept me captivated and had a great story line. The intended scary parts are written really well and are not anything ripped off from dear old dad. smiley  I am really looking forward to reading his other book 'Horns'.

Definitely read it. Joe Hill's voice as a writer is very different from King's. It's not nearly as dry. The story is unque and when I read it, I didn't get a sense of his father at all. He's a very different story teller even though they write the same genre.

I need to pick this book up again and actually read the whole thing, I don't think I was in the mood last time I tried reading it.

Completely different authors - go ahead and read Heart-Shaped Box. It's okay, not terribly scary, and a STUPID resolution, but worth a read. I enjoyed his short stories WAY more though.

I just picked this up at a used book store. I have heard mixed reviews on it. Looking forward to reading it though. Hope you like it!

Kathryn

I'll let you know :) Like you, I am not one of those people who are crazy over Stephen King either. There are some books of his that I enjoyed, and others not so much. I picked this one up because several people on here said it was one of the scariest books they have read :)
