I picked this paperback up at my local library fair and honestly decided to buy it because it had an attractive cover. I had never heard of the author, but I will say that her character development was as good as any of the more famous authors I read. I think we all know a supermom like Effie Hammond and this book went a long way toward helping me understand that type of person as a feeling human being and not a robot. Cravens reminded me throughout the book of Anne Tyler (one of my absolute favorites) and I would recommend this book to anyone. The author also did a great job of making you feel like you were experiencing the desert southwest!
