A ride in a stunt helicopter spells the end of life as they have known it for Academy Award-winning director Quentin Grandy and his assistant-producer Mia Tortelli.

Following the accident, Mia and Quentin find themselves in the holding room in Purgatory. Luck is with them, however, and they are offered a second chance at life if they agree to play guardian angel and straighten out the life of troubled actress Chelsea Jordan. From child star, to teenage soft-porn queen, to box office bonanza, Chelsea has spent her life in the public eye. Deep-seated anger and bitterness at her parents' behavior has caused rebel Chelsea to live an outrageous lifestyle.

Since they can't interact directly with Chelsea, Mia and Quentin must use the assistance of Mia's Uncle, Ely Van Ness. Fearing for Chelsea's mental health, Ely agrees to assist the angels by pretending to be dead and leaving his fortune to Chelsea...with the proviso that she live and work in Arkansas for at least one month. If Chelsea refuses to comply with the will, Ely's entire fortune will be left to AM/AM, a Neo-Nazi white supremacist group.

As Chelsea gamely tries to comply with Ely's will, she is helped by Reverend Luke Miller and his young son Timmy. Luke is like no minister Chelsea has ever met, and a deep and unlikely attraction builds between the two. AM/AM, however, is not going to give up their potential millions without a fight. Can Mia, Quentin and Chelsea beat them at their own game?
