I posted a book and since I could not read the ISBN on the back, I took the one from the inside of the book. Little did I know that both the HB & PB edition were listed, and yes, you guessed it, I entered the wrong one. There are a gazillion people on the wishlist and it keeps cycling thru because for whatever reason, people are not accepting the book when it comes up in their account. I need to cancel it so I can repost it properly but can not figure out how to do this unless someone accepts it, which I would like to avoid because then the person is going to be unhappy that they are not going to get the book they wanted. Is there something I can do, or do I have to just wait until someone accepts it? And will that person go back in the same spot they were on the wishlist for this book?

And for those that are ready to scold me, yes,I know that the verification box comes up before posting and yes, I should have checked it - hindsight is 20/20. I learned my lesson.

To remove it from your bookshelf make sure you are logged into your account and click on my bookshelf under the my account tab. That will bring up the books you have posted. Simply check the box to the far right of the one you want removed, and click delete at either the top or the bottom of the page. I'm hoping it's that easy anyway. LOL It seems to be all one has to do from what I'm seeing.

If you can't do that because someone's wishlist keeps trying to grab it, could you not just click I cannot send this book or whatever it says under the request?

From the FAQ's

  • If you have Posted the book in error, you will not be able to remove the pending offer.
    • You will need to wait until the book is requested, then click "I cannot send" on the request
    • You will have a chance to send a Personal Message to the requestor when you cancel.
  • Or one last idea, since you said it's a matter of people not accepting the book for some reason so it keeps cycling through, how about putting your account on vacation hold so not one can request the book to give you a chance to remove it? I'm assuming one would still have access to their account to do so.

    Also from FAQ's

The "Vacation/Hold" feature "hides" your posted books, as well as your Wish List, during periods when you are unable to send out books or respond to PBS emails. This helps to prevent disappointing other members who may try to request your books or who post books on your Wish List while you are away.

Please note that PBS emails and communications about ongoing transactions (for books already requested from or by you before the Hold goes into effect) will take place as usual. If you have any pending actions or transactions, the communications associated with them will continue. Other members will also still be able to send you Personal Messages through the system.

    Hope that helps!

Nope, I tried to go to my bookshelf and there is a little exclamation mark where the box should be because it is waiting for someone to accept. The vacation hold idea might be good, I will have to see if that works. If not,  I think I just need to wait until someone accepts it and then apologize profusely for my error!

    Heather--

You'll have to wait until someone accepts.  Rather than flat out cancel, you could PM them and explain your error, apologize and offer to send them yours if they still want it, noting that the binding is different (you'll also probably want to give them a deadline, by which you'll cancel the request if they don't reply).  Some folks want a WL book in any form they can get it.  If they decline, you'll need to cancel the request on your end so they don't lose their place in the WL line, then you can repost under the correct ISBN.

Things happen, we're all human, hopefully they'll be understanding.

    Cheers,
    Catt

Put your shelf on hold.  If the next person lets it time out or declines the request it should just put it on your shelf on hold then you can delete the book. This is what it did for a WL book I posted that timed out on the first person.  I had to take my account off hold to get it to offer it to the next person.

If this person accepts then just hit I cannot Mail the Book.  No big deal.  I think it even lets you put in why you can't send it out.  They'll keep their place in the WL line.  IF they have conditions-do NOT decline because of conditions-this will just send the offer to the next person.  You have to choose the Other REasons option.

quick and easy solution:  use the "Contact Us" feature, give the ISBN, name of the book and explain the situation...they will cancel the transactions and prevent that book from cycling....this is the easiest and quickest thing to do.
