Kate Daniels seris by Ilona Andrews is great, as is The Hallows series by Kim Harrison. I also really like the Merry Gentry series, but I am a big Laurell K. Hamilton fan - people either seem to love or hate her.

79.  Kitty Kitty Kitty.

And for Charlaine Harris, either Lily Or Harper instead of Aurora.  But put something very light next to Lily, like the Young Brothers. (56)

trying to keep it to a short list of very favorites, here's my top 4 from that list in no particular order, since i can't decide which of many would get the #5 spot:

  1. Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
  2. Weather Warden Series by Rachel Caine
  3. Merry Gentry by Laurell K Hamilton
  4. Blood Series by Tanya Huff

though there's plenty on the list i haven't read, some of which is on my TBR as well.  i'll be watching to see what others say too.

Wow, it seems Ellen and I must have similar tastes.  Those are the ones I would have picked, though the only one I have completed is the Blood series by Taya Huff.  If you do go for it, I say you should follow it up with the Smoke series, too, since they are linked.

I go for lighter/funnier and I'm still sorta a newbie but I enjoyed Kathy Love's  Young Brothers, esp the first couple of books. I've read the first in the Dresden Files and liked it  - the next 5 are in my TBR. I loved the love at stake series by kerrelyn sparks - light funny romances and characters show up in other books. I'm not sure why she wasted book 2 on that couple but oh well! so long as my other faves get their story!

for my tastes I'd probably go with finishing the Dresden files, aurora teagarden, the haunted bookshop, vegas vampires, the mcalister ones, Nina Bangs and the real vampires...but Kerrelyn Sparks and Kathy Love are 2 of my favorite series for being light and funny and sexy.

Thanks everyone!  Matt, I have the Smoke Series by Huff as well, so if I go with that one I will definitely read it too.

I've really been wanting to get to the Dresen Files since I read a short story of it in an anthology, and the Weather Warden series because I love Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series!

Wow, quick question, (I have to ask) - do you have all the books, in all the series listed? I thought my hubby's and my TBR piles were bad but I think you've got us both beaten there ...

Needless to say, most of those series, are in said TBR pile but The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher are a must read, (got put on the keeper shelf). Also, even though it's a young adult series, my hubby really enjoyed the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer.

Both of us are wanting to read Caine's Weather Warden, Harrison's The Hollow and Vaughn's Kitty Norville series, if that's any help?!!

I've read great reviews on this series Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, I just started reading Kim Harrison's Hollow series and though in the begining I wasn't real sure I would like it I am now reading The Outlaw Demon Wails and I can't seem to get enough of these books.

I also loved the Morganville series and have read great reviews on The Weather Warden series.

You have a long list of really good books and I'm sure whatever you pick you'll love.

Emma, I don't have every book in each series (although there's several that I do have them all) but I at least have the first 2-3 in each series and if I pick them to read then I'll just buy the rest if I like it :-)

Ashley, you are the first one that said Lords of the Satyr, but since I'm sure not as many people read erotica as they do paranormal (I have this list posted in a shelfari group as well) I didn't figure anyone would pick it.  I think I going to read it for sure though because I just bought them new on my kindle last month!  They looked really good to me.

I really like them, and I am not a fan of any book set in a historical setting that isn't Scotland lol They are very very different and I loved how Elizabeth Amber pulled everything off, and had the balls to do what she did lol

Also, as if you don't have enough, but Lilith Saintcrow and Keri Arthur both have more series with Imajinn books. I love Lilith Saintcrows Society series and her Watcher Seres, and even all of Keri Arthurs lol

I've read the other Keri Arthur series that I don't have listed here, at least I think that's all (Ripplecreek and the Circle trilogy).  I have Lilith Saintcrows other series on my RL as well!

Well out of that entire list there are only 4 that I have read or am currently reading....so out of those 4 here's the order of which is best to read.

  1. Women of the Otherworld - Kelley Armstrong (I love this series...and I'm dissapointed I'm coming towards to end of it.)
  2. Black Dagger Brotherhood - J.R. Ward (Great series with lots of action and steamy sex scenes.)
  3. Aisling Grey Guardian - Katie MacAlister (I finished this one, and thought it was hilarious.)
  4. Sisters of the Moon - Yasmine Galenorn (Not one of my favorite series that I'm currently reading, but I still want to see what happens so I've decided to keep moving forth with it.  So far the 2nd book has been the best, and I'm about to start up on the 4th.)

Hope this helps a bit :)

Jenni

I can list ones I didn't like lol

Vampire Huntress by LA Banks- totally not worth the effort i put into reading the first 4 books

Dragonfyre by Deborah Cooke- the first one bored the hell out of me...it was flat. I might read the 2nd if I ever got it from a game, but I wouldn't pay money or a credit for it lol

Wolf Tales by Kate Daniels- a lot of people like these, but there was one scene in the first that I cannot get past.

Sisters of the Moon by Yasmine Galenorn- not a fan of slutty heroines lol

Monere, Children of the Moon by Sunny- too much like LKH for my tastes

I have quite a few of these sitting on my TBR too...but obviously only commenting on those I've read.

  1. Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian don’t bother
  2. Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews loved it!  1st book is tough, 2nd book is great.  Urban fantasy
  3. Mercy Holdings by Toni Andrews
  4. Blood Ties by Jennifer Armintrout 1st book is good the rest blow.
  5. Women of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong I love this series.  Some books are better than others.
  6. Real Vampires by Gerry Bartlett cute, light read.  Wouldn’t put it at the top
  7. Faery Tales by Holly Black love Holly Black
  8. Dresden Files by Jim Butcher haven’t read them all but like them!
  9. Weather Warden Series by Rachel Caine liked the series but don’t read them back to back
  10. Changeling Detective Agency by Elaine Cunningham love this series…wish there would be a 3rd book!
  11. Ophelia and Abby by Shirley Damsgaard like what I”ve read.
  12. Nightwalkers by Jacquelyn Frank good
  13. Sisters of the Moon by Yasmine Galenorn okay
  14. Merry Gentry by Laurell K Hamilton I actually like this series.  I’d recommend it!
  15. Harper Connelly by Charlaine Harris good
  16. The Hollows by Kim Harrison very good, gets better as it goes along
  17. Mageverse by Angela Knight mindless erotica if that’s your thing.
  18. Aisling Grey by Kaite MacAlister love this, light and funny
  19. Dark Ones by Katie MacAlister okay
  20. Vegas Vampire by Erin McCarthy
  21. Magic by Cheyenne McCray eh….
  22. Succubus by Richelle MEad good
  23. Jaz Parks by Jennifer Rardin LOVE THIS SERIES!
  24. Dante Vampire by Lilith Saintcrow good, urban fanasty.  Found some elements annoying but worth the read if for no other reason it’s unique.
  25. Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter good, but very much like ward and frank.
  26. Study by Maria Snyder LOVE THIS SERIES!  AGAIN UF
  27. Anna Strong by Jeanne Stein good, mixed feelings tho on the series as a whole.
  28. Monere, Children of the Moon by Sunny okay, unique but very much erotica
  29. Kitty by Carrie Vaughn very good
  30. Hunters by Shiloh Walker
  31. Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward good, similar to frank and showalters underworld series.
  32. World of the Lupi by Eileen Wilks I liked it, moves more toward UF as the series progresses.

if we're going to cover which ones we would perhaps suggest skipping:

  1. Hunters by Shiloh Walker - i had 3 of these, read them, they were ok but i won't go looking for more.
  2. World of the Lupi by Eileen Wilks - i probably wouldn't have picked this up, but my mom had the first one for some reason.  (not her usual thing at all.)  i read the first one, and it was ok, but i'm didn't care enough to read any more.
  3. Vampire Huntress by LA Banks - read the first one, could not convince myself to read any more.  i do like her other series though.

and these are ones where i had the book, tried it out, and gave up within the first chapter:

  1. Ophelia and Abby by Shirley Damsgaard
  2. Gillian Key, Paradoc by Talia Gryphon

Alien Huntress by Gena Showalter -  kind of borderline.  i liked Awaken Me Darkly and Savor Me Slowly ok, but gave up on Enslave Me Sweetly after 60 pages.  (there's also some YA Alien Huntress books that seem to be listed as part of the same series, but i haven't tried any of those.)  i liked her Lords of the Underworld series better.

My vote goes to the Midnight Breed, Vampire Huntress, and Kitty.  Midnight Breed is hot, hot, and more hot.  Vampire Huntress, is hot and DEEP.  Kitty is light and kind of whimsical!  Just my 2 cents.
