I received a book in the mail today, but it was RWAP...  there is something on the top part of the book... like the top of the pages that was bright pink and sticky...  almost like gum...  or lipgloss or something like that...  it is not a large spot but is there for sure...  (If you are the sender and see this post, please do not take offense as I would never mention names or say anything negative or rude or try to be mean intentionally...)  I marked the book RWAP and explained that while the book arrived safely, when I got it open, there is something pink on the top of the book that was sticky...  etc etc etc...  I feel I was polite and all that stuff and explained to them that I just feel that the book would not be "re-postable" at least not by what I believe are the standards set forth here....  I received a message back from the sender stating that they would be glad to refund my credit, but I would have to send them the book back first.....  Now, I have re-read the rules and guidelines and such in the help section....  and take it to believe I am entitled to my credit back AND if they want the book back, compensation for that cost to me...  (ie postage or another credit or etc...)  so how do I respond to this, what should I do????

Tell her as nicely as possible about the PBS rules and guidelines, give her the link so she can check for herself.

Then give her two options:

  • She can give you your original credit back plus another credit to cover the postage to return the book and you'll return the book ASAP
  • She can refund your credit and not get the book back

Reassure that after she has complied with one of the above options, you'll mark the RWAP as resolved.

Just tell them you will send the book back when you get the credit for the unpostable book as well as an extra credit OR postage. The ball is in your court....if they don't want to send the extra cedit or postage, you keep the book, but they should  give you the credit for the book.

I had one that said she'd give me my credit back as soon as I returned the book.  I copied the PBS guidelines about the credit or postage and she was not nice when she said to keep the book.  I always had the feeling she wanted to tell me to stuff it.  Not my fault she sent me an ARC.  She did return my credit but not for a couple of days.

Well, I was just told the same thing... that they had "reconsidered" and that I could just keep the book and mark it RWAP as they didn't remember anything being on the book.....

All I can say is that some people think that it's worth a shot.  It's not a nice thing to do.  but to some people nothing ventured nothing gained - and "gain" is what they want!

Definitely mark it RWAP.  I'd probably give it a week or so before going into my transaction archive and marking the transaction unresolved and the sender refused to refund the credit.  Just in case the other person changes their mind about refunding the credit.
