My nephew reads at about a second grade level, but he is a reluctant reader. The one exception is 'scary' stories with ghosts, monsters, etc, but those seem to be fairly hard to come by at that reading level. Even taking him to the bookstore or the library tends to end with him annoyed because the books he wants are too hard and the books at his level don't interest him or are "too cartoonish." *sigh* Each child gets at least one new book for Christmas, so I'm really hoping to find something that would work for him. Any recommendations for spooky stories at a high first grade to second grade reading level? |

What about scooby doo's? They always have ghost and monsters in them. THere is a series called Scooby-doo and You and you sovle the mystery. You are given all of the suspects and clues and then you figure out you did it. Another series that is about that level is the Bailey school kids and deals with mythical chacters, like big foot, vampires, werewoves. Also there are some Ripley's believe if or not books on such subjects. What about Goosebumps? I have a kid who likes scary things but got scared easily and she loved Goosebumpsl. I hope this helps. The website and book Guys Read has a large number of recommendations for boys. I believe they have a section on ghosts and monsters. |
