Okay I need help! I was trying to post some books directly to another member's wishlist. Unfortunately I forgot I was on hold while doing it so two of the books went on regular wishlist hold. I pm'd those folks to let them know about my mistake plus the person I'm posting to.  So since I'll click can not mail when the first people accept, I'm guessing my account should be on hold so the books don't roll over to the next person in line? Is that correct?

Times like these, I truly wish that there was a cushion built in for the poster as well as the receiver--a way to cancel a book when you've made a mistake like that. It wasn't more than a few minutes before I realized I what I'd done and too bad, so sad, there's no way to cancel it even when it's that quick.

agggh--I feel so stupid!

What you want is for the people that got offered the books to ACCEPT the offer, and then you click "Cannot mail". You do not need to be on hold for that. That will remove the book from the system.

If the people that got offered the books decide to decline the offer due to your PM, in that case, the offer will automatically roll over to the next person in the WL. If you asked those people to decline the books, then yes, putting your shelf on hold will prevent the book offer from rolling over.

Sara handled the what to do now, but I am curious on how you were able to post the books? There should have been no Post This Book button on their Wish List if you where on Vacation Hold. That is the protection in place  to avoid this problem. DId you leave their Wish List and post from the book details page or the yellow popup when the buttons where absent? Whenever you post directly to someone you will see their name in the upper right of your screen after you've clicked the Post This Book button. If you don't see their name, don't complete the posting process, but go back to their Wish List and start over making sure to only use the Post This Book button on the right on the book while on their Wish List.

I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago. I'm not sure the safeguard is in place because my account was definitely on vacation and there was definitely a Post this book button on my friend's wishlist. In fact it looked like it was going to their wishlist (said something like ' you are posting this book to XXX member's wishlist) until the very end, but then when it was posted it was offered to another member and was still listed on my friend's wishlist.

Do NOT assk people to decline the WL offers. They're lose their place in line and that would not be fair because it was your mistake.  They can't let them time out either.

Just declne for other reasons and it'll remove it from your shelf.  Don't decline RCS-that'll move it to the next person. You want I Cannot Mail For Other Reasons.

If one looks like it's going to time out, then go on vacation hold to prevent it from rolling to the next person.

I'm not planning on asking them to decline. I want them to accept and was just explaining that I will be declining the book because I made a mistake.
