I read this book in the early 1990's but I am pretty sure it wasn't a book published first in that time period. It was part of one of those "leather-bound classic book sets", but it wasn't the Harvard Classics because I know it had Jane Austen and other fiction of that era.  AND, it wasn't a Harlequin-type book.

The plot was about a young European girl who was either kidnapped and/or shipwrecked and ended up in a harem in the Middle East. It was a romance; I'm pretty sure she fell for the prince or the sultan or whatever he was, but I have the impression that she escaped somehow at the end of the story.

Any ideas on the title?

Thanks!

Skye O'Malley by Bertrice Small? She's kidnapped by Barbary pirates and sold to a Dey in Algiers. She has amnesia, the dey is murdered, and she escapes. (And she ends up in a harem in the next book too - All the Sweet Tomorrows)

But those aren't the whole stories, more like interludes in the book before she ends up someplace else. It's probably the Lindsey. Did she have silver hair and violet eyes?
