Charlie Bones series by Jenny Nimmo

Adventurer's Wanted: Slathbog's Gold by ML Foreman  (only 2 books out so far though)

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins

Secrets of Dripping Fang Forest Series by Dan Greenburg (these are shorter books )

Check out the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.  The first is "The Book of Three" and there are 5 in the series; two of which won Newberry Honors/Awards.

If he liked Magic  Treehouse you might also try Secrets of Droon. There are close to 40 books in the series, about 120 pages each, so they should last for a while. If he likes mysteries, try the 39 Clues series.

My younger brother loved the Alex Rider books at t that age. First one is Stormbreaker. One of my favorites growing up was the Animorphs books. Theres around 50 of those and they are re-releasing them right now so they are getting easier to find.
