Hello All,

You've been so amazing helping me find titles to books that I thought I'd try again!

This one is vague and my best guess would be early 90s...and I tend to stick to the harlequin and silhouette type books.

I honestly can't remember how they meet or how they end up together, but I remember that she learns she is expecting and she is trying to hide it from him because there are complications with the pregnancy.  I'm guessing that maybe they worked together or she worked for him because I'm remembering that she is put on bed rest and is alone and trying to figure out how in the world she is going to make ends meet and she is stressed about him finding out.

Of course he does find out and moves her in with him, can't remember if they marry or not.  She never tells him there are complications...for some reason he desperately wants the baby and she can't bear to tell him it might not happen.  She is off her feet all day and pretending everything is fine and he is giving her trouble when he gets home in the evenings because she is not "active" enough and doing enough during the day.

I can remember it ending with her going into labor, but there are problems and she might not make it?  As they are wheeling her away she tells him to take care of the baby because she knows how much it means to him and he is horrified to realize that she really believes that he doesn't love her.  He's terrified that she won't fight to live because she believes she has nothing to live for...that all he wants is the baby.

Isn't the mind a crazy thing?  Why can I remember all this and NOTHING more?

Can anyone help with this one?

Melissa B.

I'm sorry, it doesn't ring any bells. If no one can figure it out I'll post it over the Romantic Times message board.

Oh, oh, oh, FINALLY one I know!

It's The Case of the Mesmerizing Boss by Diana Palmer.  The back description of the book doesn't even hit all the details but it's definitely this book.

"Former Texas Ranger Dane Lassiter knew all about wanting.  He'd wanted Tess Meriwether for year, but he'd scared her away after nearly claiming her innocence in one out-of-control moment.  Now he considered her off-limits, because Tess deserved better than a man who was scarred both body and soul.  And she definitely deserved a husband who was all man--not the shell of one...

But when Tess narrowly escaped a killer's bullet, Dane appointed himself her protector, whisking her away to his Texas ranch.  Now his toughest challenge was convincing the stubborn, innocent beauty to accept safety in his arms..."

Dane runs a detective agency and Tess works as a secretary to him.  They're together once and she gets pregnant and hides it from him.  There are complications with the baby, she's got to be on total bed rest.  He finds out she's pregnant and marries her and takes her to his ranch but she hides her condition from him still until she starts bleeding and goes into labor.

It's part of a series, most Palmer books connect in one way or another and you see characters from one in the next book.

Looks like there are 3 versions of it in the PBS system too.  I'd order A Matter of Trust because it's got this book and the second in this series in it.  Two books for one credit!

Diana Palmer is one of my favorite authors, I have nearly everything she's written.  This one is one of my favorites.  Heck, most of hers are my favorites!
