I am doing a gift exchange on another website, and the person I'm assigned to likes the author George HH Martin. I know nothing about sci/fi and fantasy books.

Would someone please be able to suggest similar authors?

Also, since Martin's Game of Thrones became an HBO miniseries this year, there's a lot of gift-type stuff out there related to it -- calendars, t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc.  Perhaps that might be a useful gift idea.

HBO sells things related to their series on the web, and Amazon had calendars, games, books of artwork and other items.  CafePress has some items as well. I don't get out to the mall much, so I'm not sure what's available in brick and mortar shops -- sorry.  Perhaps a bookstore or video place (if they haven't all gone extinct now) would have something locally, or those calendar stands they set up at the mall for the holidays?
