I was reading a series of regency mysteries with a young lord as the detective.  He has a friend from the war who is a doctor and had an actress named Kat he was in love with.  Kat may or may not be his half sister.  She has since married a guy who is gay.  I can't think of the young lord's name, any of the titles or the author.  The only other thing I remember is that Lord Jarvis, friend and companion to Prince Edward, is his nemesis.  He'd rather people go unpunished if they are part of the aristocracy.  He has a daughter named Hero, who has worked with young lord.  He's not really attracted to her but once when they thought they were going to die, they slept together.  The last book I read she'd learnt she was pregnant but hadn't told him but was probably going to accept this proposal.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?  I've read them in the last couple of years and I don't think they were too much older than that.  I read them all in PB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I searched on librarything.com and there is a series by Candice Proctor with a character named Lord Jarvis.  One of the books in the series is titled What Angels Fear.  There are four other books in the series.

Yes, they are the Sebastian St. Cyr series by C. S. Harris (Candice Proctor). Wonderful series.
