I'm giving this book 5 stars because it's a gem of its kind, although it is nothing like a modern historical romance. In the first chapter you won't even know who the hero and heroine are. Then they meet briefly, but we don't see the hero again for the first half of the book, although he is behind the scenes, smoothing the heroine's path. The conflict is all external, not between the H&h. Yet the author manages to pack so much into a scant 200 pages! There is humor and suspense, plenty of local color and character development, and a really romantic finish. I was already loving it, but when it finished off with flipping the usual script by having the heroine rescue the hero, that was just the icing on the cake!
Out of print and used copies are expensive on Amazon, so if you see it here, I would snap it up!
