Make sure you are being courteous to other members and following the rules for posting, they are in the red sticky at the top of this forum in the Book Bazaar Tour.

Some of the key things:

*Make sure you only start one thread per day advertising your deals/shelves. If you have more than one offer, they need to go in the same post.

*Make sure you only bump your thread once per day. That doesn't mean once in the morning and once at night, it means one time all day long so pick where you think it will get the most exposure and use it then. The rules have also been updated to reflect that you also may only bump 2 threads per day.

*There can be no offering or asking for postable Wishlisted books, unless they are a boxed set you want to send as a boxed set. Wait your turn in line. If you want to try to save postage by sending multiples, check the genre forums for a WL offer thread, the Book Bazaar rules say you can't do it here. Updated for the new thread **May** Wishlisted Multiples ONLY....save on shipping (SEE RULES)
which allows offering of Wish List books in that thread following the rules in the first post. (Obviously, you can ask for Wish List books that you are first in line for and you can offer unpostables or alternate ISBNs where your ISBN isn't WL, but another version of it is).

*There can be  no direct book-to-book swapping except between Box-o-Book members

*You can offer books for credits here. Nothing else can be swapped for credits on PBS. You can offer your other stuff for free with an order or orders from your shelf, but you cannot ask for credit for the non-book item. This includes points from other sites, they cannot be traded in the PBS forums. The post by the site leader on this subject is here Bookmooch Points. There is a new Forum - Random Acts of Kindness that seems to allow some of this, I don't use that forum so I don't know if those posts are allowed or not.

Lets keep the Bazaar useable for everyone so we can get some good deals, and offer good deals to get credits!

eta: I need to clarify that I have absolutely no authority in the Bazaar. This is just a friendly reminder so that everyone can enjoy the Bazaar. Most people who violate the rules, just don't realize they are up there.  It's more fun for shoppers when people follow the rules. And posters who follow the rules will get more action on their shelves. A win for everyone!

edit: Better update this oldy for new rules if its going to be up on the first page.  If you have questions about the rules in the Bazaar, contact Amanda S. (ABCatHome) one of the Book Bazaar Czars.

There is one part that needs to be changed somehow with this, as I have checked with the librarian--you can ask for wishlisted books if you are #1 in line for them.

Yeah, I figured Theresa's clarification was obvious :)

As for Sara's - yes, offering unpostable WL books is perfectly fine. As for the asking for them, the BB Czar Bernie has said no on the asking for them in the past, since it really is asking for a WL book and a few people were obviously abusing it.

I will edit the list. This was just a friendly reminder for people that there are additional rules for the BB since a lot of them have been broken lately. Once it starts, it seems like a flood of them swamp the BB so you can't even read it for all the people vying to get all their threads on the top.

Maybe someone from PBS should PM certain people and advise them of above rules. BB is out of control!! Have seen 5 or 6 different threads from two or three members alone.

Sorry for the WL Secret Rage post if I am the problem here.  I did not realize that you could not post them.  Sorry my first BB post and a mistake. I saw the thread for WL under different ISBN and thought that WL books like that could be listed here.  I will delete mine if someone will let me know how.   Sorry again,  Bonnie

Bonnie M. - glad I saw this posted over at Book Bazaar June WL books with Diff ISBN "I have Secret Rage by Charlaine Harris. Book Club Edition, No ISBN Hardcover with Dustjacket.  1984 edition on my shelf"

When I saw your post above that said: Sorry for the WL Secret Rage post if I am the problem here I didnt' know Secret Rage was a book!  I really thought you were being clever with your language about how people were feeling here on this topic!   LOL

Thanks for making this post, I had read the rules myself before I posted in here for the first time and I must admit it was a little frustrating when I would come across more than one post from a member. I was excited to look around BB but it was becoming so crazy and messy I backed off for a bit. I have posted one "deal" here for my book case and if the BB gets some normacly happening I will be happy to post again :)

Someone might mention that credits for sale posts maybe should go in the Buying/Selling credits thread. If someone has already mentioned it and I didn't see if then disregard this please! :)

I know it was really confusing for me when I was trying to figure out where to go to buy credits. And thanks for the tips...they are very helpful.

Thanks for posting this reminder.

Everyone keeps mentioning it's such a mess, but I have no idea what BB is supposed to look like.

Please tell us what type of books you have on your shelf for your deal and it put  either in the title for your post or body of your post. Also let us know if you have date that your deal will end.

Good Example:   3for1 on mysteries, thrillers, romance, horror

Bad Example: 3 for 1 on my shelf look

Quick question but what constitutes a box set?  Is it just multiple books in a series?

I believe a "box set" is series that is SOLD as a box set;  ie. Lemony Snicket series, Chronicles of Narnia, etc.  You can also go to the live help section and PM a PBS Tour Guide to verify this.  They are usually pretty quick to respond.

Unfortunately, the problems with people not "following the rules" have been long standing.  There are individuals, and anybody who checks this site out with any regularity is fully aware of who these individuals are, who constantly run multiple threads involving their bookshelves and/or multiply bump their single thread each day for days on end.  These are the same individuals who "end" one sale thread and immediately "start " a new sale thread with exactly the same terms as the previous sale, with the same "tired old bookshelf" of picked-over books.

The problem of "rules enforcement" for a site like Paperbackswap is that the operator of the site wants to encourage optimum use, so they are not really the most effective source of enforcement.  Indeed, their enforcement actions are best kept to eliminating individuals who engage in some form of deliberate misrepresentation or fraud (like dealing with individual who opens one account and insists on receving credits before they ship out books where they have no intention of actully shipping the books, and then immediately transfer the credits to another account so that when the fraudulent account is "closed" the perpetrator still has access to the fraudulently obtained credits).  With respect to "rules violations" like multiple postings, the best enforcement mechanism would be for us users to be able to self-enforce by refusing to purchase from multiple posters and/or placing them on "ignore this member" status.

We know who the "multiple posters" are, how about we refuse to buy from them?

I actually laughed out loud when I saw this......someone in the BB posted about 6 different threads within minutes of each other!  They advertised all the different authors from their shelf individually on each thread! I couldn't believe that they thought that was ok.  Also some members bump their many posts all together so you see the same name on 2 or 3 threads at a time. It is definately out of control.

That said I have enjoyed a few new posts in the BB that members have been starting. One is the "I will look at your shelf if you look at mine".  This really gets your bookshelf viewed by many people. I also like checking the "My top 5 books" posts. This is where you post the best 5 books on your shelf. I have gotten several orders from posting on these threads.

She turned out to be a new member who asked a Tour Guide about advertising different ISBNs, and the Tour Guide suggested posting on the Book Bazaar. The TG didn't tell her, and she didn't realize, that she should put all her offers into one thread. Now, granted, she could have read the rules, but she didn't ... .but now she knows. Don't be too harsh on newbies!  :)

Bumping this thread!

but I am having a Moment here.  To clarify:

I can NOT request a deal on books on my wish list. Correct or Incorrect?

(I am asking because I have a few books on my wish & reminder lists that I'd like to order but of course, I can't tell who has them to ask for a deal from without placing an order.)
