Today I received a Cliff Notes book and the upper right corner of the book looks like it has been very neatly chopped off.  Not just the cover now, but every page from front to back.  The triangle of book that is missing is about 1 inch off the top and 1/4 inch off the side.  None of the text is lost.  Otherwise, the book is in new condition.  What do you think - should I accept this book?  Will I be able to repost it?

If you are asking about your post,  Yes, RWAP.

If it is a book you are asking about, I dont know.... ;)

If it were just the cover, it sounds like it would be okay -- less than a square inch.  But since it's the pages, too, it isn't postable.

Well, its a gray area, to be sure.

I think its technically postable. The pages do not sound ripped or torn to me. Just not rectangular.

My interpretation of the rule about no ripped or torn pages is to prevent books being posted that are either 1. too fragile to read (with rips or tears they could easily become more damaged) or 2. unreadable.

I'm guessing that it is the kind of thing that most people would not RWAP, but maybe would not post again.

If it truly bothers you and you wanted to maybe repost it-it's definitely RWAP. The rules state the cover can be docked, but nothing about the entire corner of the book being axed off! That falls under torn & gnawed pages which are definitely a no-no. BTW you can mark RWAP and not ask for a credit back-I think that's the way to do things if the book wasn't postable but you don't care enough to replace it. As for reposting, I personally would not post a book like that and since you've designated it a problem, you should not post it. Remember the golden rule of posting!

I ended up RWAPing the book.  I explained to the sender that it was unpostable.  She agreed and returned my credit.  She was very understanding about the whole thing.  This site is about swapping after all, and I don't want to accept a book that is unpostable.

Thank you all for your help.
