Does anyone have any information they could share about high school advisories they have implemented?  I am very interested in learning more because we are going to try and implement this next year.  Any suggestions, websites, resources are appreciated!  Thanks  Renee'

I am a high school teacher and we have an advisory program.  It meets daily for 30 minutes and operates kind of like a study hall.  Each day of the week has an assigned function.  Monday, Wedns and Fridays are study hall/homework days.  Tuesdays are advisory/activity days--students who are in activities, like yearbook, can use these days for meetings.  The rest of the students do an activity with their advisor--schedule planning, team building, service projects, etc.  Thursdays are SSR days building wide. Friday is study hall, but the students who have earned a blue/white card--an incentive card for good grades--earn a double lunch period, which means they do not have advisory that day.

I have freshmen right now, so we do lots of activities and discussion about grades, career planning and so forth.  I had the guidance counselor come in and share info about scheduling and career programs.  We have another counselor that does presentations, so he came in and did some activities with them on respect.  We also use a career web site called Career Cruising.  For activities, I have used the book Team Challeges by Bordessa.

Is this helpful?  What kind of questions do you have?
