Loved the book. Learned quite a bit about the Mormon religion in this thriller.

A good read. Unlike the other books I've read of his, this one is from his financee's point of view/standpoint. Very suspenseful, and I really am starting to like Sam Purdy.

In this novel, Dr. Alan Gregory's fiance Lauren is at the center of the story. She and her younger sister are involved in a case of sexual harassment involving the Mormon Church.

It has been a few years since I read this book, and I enjoyed it, BUT I am a member of the LDS (Mormon) church and have known quite a few Higher Authorities. I did not feel the church was portrayed accurately. I was very surprised by the bias or lack of research since Stephen White is one of my favorites.

A good thriller, well thought out plot line. A little dated - descriptions of pre-9/11 airline regulations are downright quaint, and more than once I found myself thinking, "why don't they just call her cell phone?" - but that can't be helped.

Overall, a very good story. I was hooked after the first 10-15 pages and stayed hooked all the way through.

Excellent addition to this series - a main character is the LDS church of Utah, so be warned!

A very interesting and compelling book. It grabs you and is hard to set down. About the mysteries behind the mormon church and radical sects of it. I recommend it to anyone.

I have read Stephen White books for awhile now. I was going to give up reading this book (a first for me with Mr. White) because I just was not interested in the LDS angle of the book. I'm glad I stuck with it. I learned a lot about LDS and the book was a good read after I got into it.

Attorney Lauren Crowder recommends a Salt Lake City lawyer for her younger sister, who has accused her former boss, an impeccably Mormon woman with high political and church connections, of sexual harassment. Crowder assists a private investigator in gathering information on the potentially explosive case, but murder intervenes: someone kills the P.I. and the former boss. Crowder then calls upon boyfriend Alan Gregory to outmaneuver the ubiquitous, corrupt tentacles of the Mormon church.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
The sudden death of Utah's Senator Orrin Hatch propels his successor, Lester Horner, first into Hatch's Senate seat and then on to become the first Mormon associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Carried along with Horner is Blythe Oaks, an ambitious and intelligent woman who is also Horner's favorite law clerk and a fellow Mormon. But Blythe's reputation - and, by extension, Lester Horner's - is threatened when a female former employee accuses her of sexual harassment and career sabotage. In Higher Authority White shifts his focus from Dr. Alan Gregory, the hero of Privileged Information and the national bestseller Private Practices, to Alan's fiancee, Lauren Crowder. The pool-shooting deputy D.A.'s life is already complicated enough as she picks her way through her relationship with Alan at the same time she is fighting her quiet and dignified battle with multiple sclerosis. But since Blythe's accuser happens to be Lauren's kid sister, aspiring stand-up comic Teresa Crowder, Lauren plunges into the case. And she gets immediate help from an old law school buddy, Robin Torr, whose practice is in Salt Lake City. When, suddenly, Blythe Oaks is savagely murdered in Washington, D.C., the lengths to which someone will go to protect secrets that might prove embarrassing to higher authorities in the church are starkly revealed. And as Crowder and Torr probe more and more deeply into these secrets, with timely help from Alan Gregory and his old friend Detective Sam Purdy of the Boulder, Colorado, police, White's tough but determined women find the body count growing and themselves placed in jeopardy by a remorseless killer.

Sinister and scary. Dr. Alan Gregory's fiancee, attorney Lauren Crowder, is thrown into a maelstrom of violence as a case of sexual harassment strikes a devastating chord amont the nations' most powerful leaders. But this legal time bomb soon explodes when crucial evidence disappears, and a killer strikes. From Washington's corridors of power to the inner sanctum of the Mormon Church, Lauren and Alan try desperately to make sense of this nightmare, and stop a killer dead in his bloddy tracks. But as secret upon secret is uncovered, the evil path of death shows no sign of ending.

Everything you always wanted to know about Mormons but were afraid to answer the door on a Saturday morning to find out. In this one, Alan Gregory plays more of a secondary character to his girlfriend/fiancee Lauren, who races all over the four corners first to help her sister's harassment case, then to help her sister stay alive. It's clear that a great deal of research went into writing this one, and the material is presented in such a way that it never gets too dry or preachy. Very good. I liked it a lot.

Lauren Crowder travels to Utah to ask a friend to take her sister's sexual harrassment lawsuit against her former boss. In filing suit against her boss she is taking on the Mormon Church and their newly appointed Supreme Court Judge. People are dying. Is it because of the lawsuit or is there something deeper to be learned. Very good story.

Great! Zipped through it because it was so hard to put down. Reading it at this time was interesting with its focus on the Mormon church. White tells a good story that kept me turning the pages long after I should have turned out the light.
