This book is crazy! There is magic flying all over the place. Twist and turns like you wouldn't believe over protective family members and two of the crankiest old men you will ever meet. What a girl to do when she is surrounded by all this mayhem and meets an attractive stranger? Fall head over heels of course! A girl can't resist a men in kilts. I recommend this book to any Janet chapman fan or anyyone else that wants a little magic in thier life.
This is the first book that I have read by Janet Chapman. At the time, I did not know that this was the 4th book in a series, nor did it matter. The book stood alone quite fine. I have just ordered the rest of the series.....tell you what you need to know?
Janet Chapman is a modern day Wizard herself. Time travel, magic, alpha males, with accents ( to us Americans ) and old world ways and ideas but somehow more aware of a modern woman's needs than a modern man. Throw in the occasional villain or mystical creature. Romance, hot steamy sex.. And you have the Pine Creek Highlander series.
The only thing wrong with these books is the highlanders get old to fast and the books are to few... I have never devoured a series so fast.
I am working my way through the remainder of Janet Chapman's Highlander books. I recently finished "Only With a Highlander." Janet Chapman is one of my very favorite romance novelists. Her books are just SO COZY. Cozy cabins, cozy fireplaces, and devastatingly handsome Scottish men. Add in a bit of magic, tender family relationships, a great love story...and you have a Janet Chapman Highlander romance novel. I've been reading the Highlander series in order and I highly recommend it. While the books do stand alone, the characters are continued from one book to another and are set in different time periods. The Highlander books in reading order up to this book are:
Charming the Highlander
Loving the Highlander
Wedding the Highlander
Tempting the Highlander
Only With a Highlander
While I did enjoy this book, I did not enjoy it as much as I have the rest of the books in the series. I had two main problems with this book. The first was that I never felt like I really got to know the male lead, Matthew Gregor. The second problem was that I never really understood WHY mankind was doomed because of Matt's actions. Having said that, I did like the book and I found the ending satisfying. There was even a twist at the end that surprised me.
For those that like to know, the book did have several "intimate" scenes, though all but one took place after Matt and Winter were married. The scenes were relatively mild, with no bad language.
As soon as Pine Creek's new mystery man steps into her art gallery, Winter MacKeage is intrigued. This sexy stranger, Matt Gregor, wants her to do some drawings of his dream house. And with his tiger-gold eyes and masculine charm, he's impossible to resist. But so is Winter's Scottish heritage. As the seventh MacKeage daughter, she must embrace her true magical calling...and deny her mortal desires. Soon Winter is heating up - in Matt's strong arms - and her fiery heart is torn. Can she give up the destiny she was born to fulfill for the only man she's ever truly loved?
Although she has always known her family's unusual time-traveling history, Winter MacKeage is not aware of her own special destiny. As the seventh daughter of Laird Greylen MacKeage, she is the chosen successor to ancient Druid wizard Pendaar. Winter was not supposed to come into her magic until much later in life, but circumstances have now decreed that she must accept her powers in order to save the world.
While her parents and Pendaar struggle over the best way to divulge her fate, Winter thinks she may have met her match in handsome Pine Creek newcomer Matheson Gregor. Matt has purchased Bear Mountain and requested that Winter use her artistic talent to help him build a house. But Matt may not be who or what he seems. Is he Winter's destiny or a dark fate flowing over the land?
This time-traveling Highlander series has been a pure joy to read, and this book is no exception. Chapman's amazing ability to meld rich characterization with passion and romantic adventure is unmatched and unforgettable.
Great story, Magical main characters and story line!

USA Today bestselling author Janet Chapman is a native of rural central Maine, where she lives in a cozy log cabin on a lake with her husband and two sons. Three cats and a stray young bull moose keep them company. The winner of the Pearl Award for Best New Paranormal Author and a two-time finalist of the Romance Writers of America's RITA Award, she is the author of four other enchanting time-travel romances set in mordern-day Maine.
This is the 5th book in the Highlander Series. There is an underlying story through out all of the books and many of your questions are answered in this book. It was interesting to get to the end of some of the stories but this book did not hold my interest as much as the previous books had. I did truly enjoy the twist in the plot, though, and that is why I believe you must read this book. Janet Chapman is a very gifted writer.
