Is a book considered postable if just the edges of the book have highlighter on it?  It appears my daughter left her uncapped highlighter laying next to my book.  I posted it and didn't even realize it had highlighter on it until I went to wrap it.  I plan on PMing the requestor regardless to see if they still want it or not--but would this be considered postable?

I'll try to post some pics.

As long as you PM, I'd consider it postable, due to the "text books" exception here on PBS.

I would consider it the same as a reminder mark on the edges of a book.

I just looked up what I was speaking of.  This is from the help center.

  • Page edges: remainder marks are OK.  A name written on the page edges is okay (if it does not bleed in and obscure text on the text pages)

Yes, marker (or other writing) on page edges is generally consdered postable.

That's what I thought but I always get nervous when there is anything wrong with a book.  the 1st person decided to pass... so I'll just keep PMing the requestor.  Good to know it's postable.  TY!

Marker on page edges is generally postable and I would say it is generally not a good idea to PM about postable books as that can create all kinds of problems, but in this case it sounds like it might be more than the typical marker on the edges. The description sounds like there may be bleeding in to the pages due to the marker laying by the book for a while uncapped and being allowed to soak into the book. Is that the case? If there is a lot of bleed into the pages, I myself might consider the book stained and unpostable and would say you shouldn't be PMing, but should be removing the book from your Bookshelf and offering it in the Bazaar.

To me that actually looks less like marker and more like some other kind of liquid.

Sorry!

I really have no idea what it is --I'm just assuming it's highligher b/c DD is always leaving them opened and laying around.  The pages aren't at all wrinkled so liquid didn't even cross my mine--I'm hoping is it is liquid it's pickle juice and not that other yellow liquid.  YUCK!  It actually could have come to me this way and I would have never noticed.  I only did when I stood it on end to wrap it.  I'm oblvious that way.

I have a PBS friend that wants it regardless of condition as of now--but I was just curious.  I'll call it a mystery stain.

If the marker/highligher is on the edge of the pages only, I would consider that postable (could be iffy how a receiver views it).  If the marker/highligher bleeds onto the page itself, I would probably consider the book unpostable.

I received a book that had big highlighter blobs on the book edges, like the book had been pressed into a backpack with an uncapped highligher.  The color bled onto the page 1/4 - 1/3 inch.  Luckily, there were other issues that clearly made the book unpostable.  But there's something in the posting guidelines that mentions edge markings:

"Page edges: remainder marks are OK.  A name written on the page edges is okay (if it does not bleed in and obscure text on the text pages)"

It look more like liquid damage to me, though it's hard to tell. I wouldn't send it. It just seems like it wouldn't be woth the possible hassle.

Yep that is definitely bleed through regardless of whether it is liquid or a type of ink or marker.
